TYPHOON NIDA COMING TONIGHT/ LE TYPHON NIDA ARRIVE CETTE NUIT

Typhoon NIDA is arriving tonight on Hong Kong. For us it is the first time we have a typhoon passing ON the city, we had 3 or 4 typhoons not far : a few hundred kilometers from HK, but never really on our heads so far.  

Le typhon Nida arrive cette nuit sur Hong Kong. Pour nous, c'est la premiere fois que nous visons un typhon qui passe vraiment SUR la ville, nous avons eu 3 ou 4 typhons pas tres loin a quelques centaines de kilometres de HK mais jamais encore en plein au dessus de nos tetes.

We have called our owner so that she calls the workers and ask them to come urgently to remove our private scaffolding, before the typhoon blows it away... to our great relief, they came at once! We have put adhesive tape on all our windows. Strangely in Hk they have no shutters and I don't understand why.

Nous avons appele notre proprietaire pour qu'elle telephone aux ouvriers et leur demande de venir d'urgence enlever notre echaffaudage prive, avant que le typhoon ne le fasse voler en l'air... A notre grand soulagement, ils sont venus immediatement! Nous avons scotche les fenetres avec de larges rubans adhesifs. Bizarrement a HK ils n'ont pas de volets et je ne comprends pas pourquoi.

All we have to do is wait and see... Maybe I'll go to the shop near by now, to get a few more supplies. (I went,there were lots of people who had the same idea...)

Il ne nous reste plus qu'a attendre... J'irai peut-etre au magasin proche, acheter quelques vivres supplementaires. (J'y suis allee et n'etait pas la seule a avoir eu cette idee...)

Monday August 1st 4.30pm we have now the T3 (Typhoon 3 signal) because Nida is now at 370 kms south east of HK, we should have T8 this evening. It is still very quiet, no rain and no wind but a sort of haze outside that I don't like. Mardee and I have put inside all the balcony plants and chairs.

Lundi 1er Aout 16h30 nous avons desormais le signal T3 (Typhon 3) car Nida est maintenant a 370 kms au Sud Est de HK, nous devrions passer a T8 ce soir. Il fait encore tres chaud et tout est calme pas de vent pas de pluie, mais une sorte de brume sale que je n'aime pas du tout. Mardee et moi avons rentre a l'interieur toutes les plantes et sieges du balcon.

Signals T1/T3/T8i indicate the distance of the Typhoon. They are posted in the entrance of our our building, on television and on the screens of cell phones or fix phones. /Les signes T1/T3/T8 indiquent la distance ou se trouve le typhon. Ils sont affiches dans l'entree de notre immeuble, sur l'ecran de tele, ainsi que sur celui des portables connectes et du telephone fixe.

CANTONESE OPERA/ OPERA CANTONAIS

Yesterday, we went with Chun Wing to Cantonese Opera. He had gone with his family, long time ago, when he was very young but did not remember much, and was willing to try again as he is now loving music so much and going to see Operas in Paris. 

Hier nous sommes alles avec Chun Wing a l'Opera Cantonais. Il y etait alle en famille, il y a longtemps, quand il etait petit mais n'en avait pas grand souvenir, et etait partant pour essayer a nouveau puisqu'il aime tellement la musique et va voir des operas a Paris.

Being on holidays in HK, he was happy to come with us at Yau Ma Tei in Kowloon where there is a small theatre only showing Cantonese Operas.

Etant en vacances a HK, il etait ravi de venir avec nous a Yau Ma Tei a Kowloon ou il y a un petit theatre qui ne montre que des Operas Cantonais.

First we went before the performance, to have dinner in a Nepalese restaurant 10 mn walk from the theatre. We walked through the old district, enjoying the sight of the various shops selling statue of Buddhas or Indian Gods, or selling cooking material for restaurants. We passed a market, a small Buddhist temple around which there were lots of tents occupied by fortune tellers who tried to attract us. 

Nous commencames par diner avant le spectacle dans un restaurant Nepalais situe a 10mn a pieds du theatre. Nous marchames dans le vieux quartier, admirant les differents magasins vendant des statues de Boudha, ou de Dieux Indiens, ou du materiel de cuisine pour restaurants. Nous passames devant un petit temple Bouddhiste entoure de tentes dans lesquelles se tenaient des voyantes ou voyants disant l'avenir et essayant de nous attirer sous leur tente..

The restaurant was small, and absolutely delicious, the 3 of us loved the food, spicy but not too much so it was edible for us though.


Le rstaurant etait assez petit et absolument delicieux, nous adorames tous les 3 la nourriture, epicees mais pas trop donc mangeable pour nous.

No photos during the show but at the end it's OK/ Pas de photos pendant le spectacle, mais a la fin on peut en prendre.

In Yau Ma Tei theater, where we have already been 3 or 4 times, there are many young actors almost beginners in their carrier but already very good. The public is mostly Hong-Kongers, very few expats. 

Au theatre de Yau Ma Tei, ou nous sommes deja alles 3 ou 4 fois, il y a surtout de jeunes acteurs en debut de carriere mais avec deja du talent. Le public est surtout des gens de Hong Kong, tres peu d'expats.

It's a charming public which up goes out in the middle of the performance, then comes back, talks loudly among themselves during the show, and applause with great enthousisame when they like what an actor just did . 

C'est un chamrant public qui se leve et sort au milieu du spectacle, puis revient, qui parle fort pendant la representaiton et qui applaudit avec enthousiasme quand ils aiment ce que vient de faire un acteur.

Our neighbors talked to us asking if we liked Cantonese Opera, they really wanted to connect. I love this spontaneous and friendly atmosphere. I also tend to talk to everybody aorund me.... 


Nos voisins nous ont parle et demande si nous aimions l'Opera Cantonnais, ils cherchaient vraiment le contact. J'adore cette atmosphere spontanee et chaleureuse. Moi aussi, j'ai tendance a parler a tout le monde autour de moi. 

I think that Chun Wing
liked the show and will see many more Cantonese Opera from now on! He is reconnecting with his culture and it will perhaps help him one day, to become a fantastic choreographer!.

Je crois que Chun Wing a aime le spectacle et reviendra voir beaucoup d'autres operas Cantonais ! Il se reconnecte avec sa culture ce qui l'aidera peut-etre un jour a devenir un choreographe fantastique!

It's always a great pleasure to spend time with him!
C'est toujours un grand plaisir de le revoir et de passer du temps avec lui!

THE BOAR IS BECOMING A LOCAL CELEBRITY/ LE SANGLIER DEVIENT UNE CELEBRITE LOCALE

This morning, just before 8 a.m, the boar was still there and Kai Phong was fascinated. She came close to the fence and the boar came near her to have a good look. (maybe it had never seen a Chow dog before). Kai Phong did not bark nor moved, she just watched while I was frantic, taking photos.

                                               

Ce matin, un peu avant 8h, le sanglier etait encore la et Kai Phong etait fascinee. Elle s'approcha du grillage et le sanglier s'approcha d'elle pour mieux la voir. (Il n'avait peut-etre encore jamais vu de chow-chow). Kai Phong n'aboya pas et ne bougea pas, elle regardait avidement tandis que je prenais photo sur photo.

  

Some helpers came and took photos too, then more dogs came and had a good look at the boar. Curiously the dogs did not bark, but waved their tails happily saying "Hello" to it.

Des bonnes vinrent et prirent des photos elles aussi, puis d'autres chiens arriverent et regarderent longuement le sanglier. Curieusement, les chiens n'aboyaient pas, mais agitaient la queue gentiment en saluant le sanglier.

Every body was discussing : "It must be very hungry to come here so near the flats and Tai Hang Road" ..."Maybe we should bring it some vegetables?". .."and water?"

Tout le monde discutait : "Il doit avoir tres faim pour venir si pres des habitations et de la route Tai Hang  Road"..."On devrait peut-etre lui apporter des legumes?"..."et de l'eau?"

The boar comes around 8 a.m and 8 p.m and is not shy at all. The neighborhood (Kai Fong in Chinese) is beginning to like it and will soon treat it like a pet!

Le sanglier vient vers 8h du matin et 8h du soir et n'est pas du tout peureux. Le voisinage  (Kai Fong en chinois) commence a bien l'aimer et va bientot le traiter en animal de compagnie!

During our morning walk we saw another chow dog, but not a nice one, he wanted to bite Kai Phong.

Pendant notre promenade matinale nous avons rencontre un autre chow-chow... helas pas aimable du tout, il voulait mordre Kai Phong.

The boar was gone when we came back home.

Le sanglier n'etait plus la a notre retour.

WILD BOAR IN TAI HANG ROAD. SANGLIER SAUVAGE A TAI HANG ROAD

This morning, coming out of home on the small drive toward Tai Hang Road, I saw a wild boar eating behind a fence. It was foraging to find  small nuts like fruit. 

Ce matin en sortant de la maison par la petite allee menant a Tai Hang Road, je vis un sanglier sauvage broutant derriere le grillage. Il fouillait les feuilles mortes en cherchant des sortes de noix.

It was not scarred of us (Mardee my helper and I), it kept eating for a long time. Some other helpers came to see what we were looking at and they also took photos.

  

Il n'avait pas peur de Mardee, ma bonne, ni de moi, il continua a manger pendant longtemps. D'autres bonnes vinrent voir ce que nous regardions et elles aussi prirent des photos.

 

In Tai Hang Road where we live, we are surrounded by trees and we sometimes feel that we live in the countryside.

A Tai Hang Road ou nous vivons, nous sommes entoures d'arbres et de verdure et avons parfois l'impression d'etre a la campagne.

Chinese boars seem to have longer and thinner snouts than their European counterparts.

Les sangliers chinois semblent avoir des groins plus fins et plus longs que leurs homologues europeens.

They came from China, through the New Territories, then they arrived few years ago in Hong-Kong island. Did they take the tunnels, the bridges or did they swim?

Ils sont venus de Chine, par les Nouveaux Territoires et ont penetre sur l'ile de Hong-Kong depuis quelques annees. Sont-ils passes par les tunnels, les ponts ou ont-ils nage?

As I was walking one morning ,I saw this insect so beautiful and apparently white underneath.
 I hope its a beattle and not a cokroach!!!!

Comme je me promenais un matin, je vis cet insecte, superbe qui semble etre blanc dessous. J'espere que c'est un scarabee et pas un cafard!!!
