Yesterday morning we enjoyed a lovely sunrise.

Then we were surprised to see Air balloons above us.

Puis a notre grande surprise, nous vimes des ballons dans le ciel au-dessus de nous.

When I walked Kai Phong, a dead possum was lying on the pavement. I felt sad, it looked so cute.

Quand je promenai Kai Phong, un opossum mort etait tendu en plein milieu du trottoir. Quelle tristesse, il etait vraiment mignon.

                                         

Later on, Mark and I went to the autumn Melbourne Flower Show.

Plus tard Mark et moi allames voir l'exposition florale automnale de Melbourne.

LAST WEEK OF MARCH / DERNIERE SEMAINE DE MARS

We are slowly getting organized : Kai Phong has settled down, she loves the garden and stays there watching the lives move and the birds all over. In the front garden when our small gate is closed she likes seeing the people walk by and most of all the dogs.We went to Caulfield park 10 mn walk from home and to Caulfield race-field 15 mn from home, where there is a place for walking dogs off leash, nice but no shade...and autumn here is still hot. I don't want a hot dog... (boum boum) no a "chaud chow-chow" (boum, boum).

Nous commencons a nous organiser doucement : Kai Phong s'est bien habituee, elle adore le jardin et y reste longtemps a contempler les feuilles qui bougent et les oiseaux partout. Dans le petit jardin devant quand notre petite grille est fermee, elle aime bien surveiller les passants et surtout les chiens qui passent devant la maison. Nous sommes alles au parc de Caulfield (prononcer kofild) a 10 mn a pieds de la maison et au champ de course de Caulfield ou il y a un endroit ou l'on peut lacher les chiens sans laisse, bien mais pas d'ombre, or l'automne ici est encore chaud et je ne veux pas de chaud-chow-chow ni de Hot dog (boum, boum c'est ce qu'on dit en Anglais quand un jeu de mot est lourd...).  

David and Myriam spent the week-end here with us. David slept on a mattress next to his future bed (Ikea is coming this morning to assemble it, as we are hopeless). Myriam had work to do, but with David we went to a Jewish artists exhibition. I will try to exhibit there next year.

David et Myriam ont passe le week-end avec nous et David a dormi sur un matelas a cote de son futur lit. (Ikea vient l'assembler ce matin car nous en sommes incapables.) Myriam avait du travail mais avec David, nous sommes alles voir une exposition d'artistes juifs. Je vais essayer d'exposer la-bas l'an prochain.

On Saturday evening, we had our first guests, Boaz (our Israel nephew) and Alma his girlfriend. They are vegan, but near our home there is a vegetarian pizzeria that also makes vegan pizzas on request. So I made salads, we ordered pizzas and had fruit. I did not have a tablecloth but was happy and proud to have enough plates, glasses, forks knives and spoons for 6!!!!  

                                                              

Nous avons recu nos premiers invites, Boaz (notre neveu Israelien) et Alma son amie. Ils sont vegans, mais pres de chez nous il y a une pizzeria vegetarienne qui, a la demande, fait aussi des pizzas vegan. Donc j'ai fait des salades et on a commande des pizzas et fini avec des fruits. Je n'ai pas encore de nappe mas j'etais tres fiere d'avoir assez d'assiettes, verres, fourchettes, couteaux et cuillers pour 6!!! 

Last week-end Kehilat Nitzan our Masorti shul had invited an american rabbi they are thinking of hiring. He came for a week, with his young wife and their baby girl. The shul is functioning well as there are a lot of very learned people able to read the Torah, to lead the service, to prepare a very interesting dracha (sermon) but they need to attract young people and to organize activities for them. 

Le week-end dernier, Kehilat Nitzan notre synagogue Massorti avait invite un rabbin americain qu'ils envisagent d'embaucher. Il vint pour une semaine, avec sa jeune femme et leur petite fille d'un an. La shul fonctionne bien car elle possede de nombreux membres tres savants, capables de faire l'office, de lire dans la Torah, de preparer des sermons passionnants mais ils ont besoin d'attirer les jeunes et d'organiser des activites pour eux.

The candidate rabbi was surprised and impressed by the level of his congregation, every question he asked was answered by many people... it was almost scary... Mark and David are pretty knowledgeable too, but not me at all. 

Le candidat rabin fut surpris et impressionne du niveau de sa communaute, a chaque fois qu'il posait une question il recevait de nombreuses reponses complexes... ca faisait presque peur... Mark et David savent pas mal de choses eux aussi, mais pas moi du tout.

OUR AUSTRALIAN GARDEN / NOTRE JARDIN AUSTRALIEN

Today, we met Kierin, "our" or rather, the house's very nice and professional gardener. First of all we have to remind ourselves that end of March here is Autumn!!!! like October in Europe.  So the roses will be trimmed soon, waouh!!! According to Kierin, the best time to plant seeds is October  in spring (April in Europe). Very confusing!

Aujourd'hui, nous avons fait la connaissance de Kierin, "notre" jardinier ou plutot celui de la maison, tres gentil et tres pro. Tout d'abord il faut se souvenir que fin Mars ici c'est l'Automne!!! comme Octobre en Europe. Donc les roses vont bientot etre taillees, oh la, la !!! D'apres Kierin, le meilleur moment pour planter est Octobre, au printemps (equivalent d'Avril en Europe). Troublant!

Then we went all over the garden to know what plants we have. What I thought was a lime tree is a lemon tree. The endemic plants are the easiest to grow as they need very little water and care. Outside the house, by the road, on the street there is a lawn in front of our house that Kierin will have to mow regularly. It is our responsibility but it must remain grass, totally forbidden to plant flowers. OK...we are learning those local rules...

Nous parcourumes tout le jardin pour savoir quelles plantes nous avions. Ce que je prenais pour du citron vert est en fait du citron. Les plantes endemiques sont les plus facile a faire pousser car elles necessitent peu d'eau et de soins. A l'exterieur de la maison, pres de la route devant notre jardin dans la rue, il y a de l'herbe que Kierin doit tondre regulierement.  Nous en sommes responsables, mais ca doit rester de l'herbe, totalement interdit de planter des fleurs. OK... nous apprenons peu a peu les regles locales.

The possums are a pain for gardens because they eat everything and as they are endemic animals you cannot do anything against them. Just hope they won't make a nest under your roof. If they do, you call the local authorities. Ok we still have a lot to learn...

Les opossums sont des nuisances pour les jardins car ils mangent tout mais comme ils sont endemiques, ils sont proteges et on ne peut rien contre eux. Juste prier pour qu'ils ne fassent pas un nid sous votre toit. Si ca arrive, il faut appeler les autorites locales. Ok on a encore beaucoup a apprendre.... 

This is where I write this blog, from the kitchen (which is also my office, till we get our furniture from HK). The little tree on the back is a laurrel tree, it's leaves are delicious with fish.

Voila ou j'ecris ce blog, de la cuisine (qui est aussi mon bureau jusqu'a ce qu'on recoive nos meubles de HK). Le petit arbre derriere est un laurier, au feuilles delicieuses sur du poisson.

SUNDAY AND MONDAY/ DIMANCHE ET LUNDI

Last Sunday, we went to a Pet Fair and saw lots of dogs of course, then we bought a spare leash for Kai Phong in case Pet Transports, Airways or Quarantine had lost hers. I did not want to receive her next Friday and not be able to walk her.

Dimanche dernier nous sommes alles a une foire aux animaux de compagnie et avons bien sur, vu plein de chiens, nous avons achete une nouvelle laisse pour Kai Phong au cas ou la sienne aurait ete perdue par la compagnie aerienne, le transporteur de chiens ou la Quarantaine.  Je ne voulais pas la recevoir Vendredi prochain sans pouvoir la promener.

Then we saw a stand that sold dogs wool and the softest one was Chow-Chow's wool. If I comb and brush her and keep the wool, they come and fetch it and you can have your pet's wool to make pull over or scarf. 

                               

                               

Puis nous avons vu un stand qui vendait de la laine de chiens et la plus douce etait la laine de chow-chows. Si je la brosse ou peigne et que je garde sa laine, ils viennent la chercher a domicile et vous pouvez avoir une pelotte de la laine de votre chien pour faire des pulls ou echarpe.

Then we went to a Jewish cultural fair where we met a few people we knew. Eventually we met a couple of ladies we knew from shul, in the Lesbian Stand. They were very friendly, David told me they were musicians, one was a trumpetist (professional) and her partner played another wind instrument. Trumbon (?) I think.

Puis nous allames a une foire Culturelle Juive ou nous rencontrames plusieurs personnes que nous connaissions. Et meme nous rencontrames un couple de dames que nous connaissions de la shul, elles tenaient le stand des Lesbiennes. David nous dit qu'elles etaient musiciennes. L'une etait trompetiste et sa partenaire jouait d'un autre instrument a vent du trombone je crois.

On Monday the whole family went to Ikea... Myriam already came many times with me, but Mark and David (not at all happy to be there) helped us carrying things from storage to cashier and delivery. We had bought so much stuff (3 trolleys full) that we were really happy to have 2 men helping us. Exhausted David started sleeping on a trolley. Amazing how he can sleep anywhere!

                                                              

Lundi toute la famille est allee a Ikea... Myriam est deja venue souvent avec moi, mais Mark et David (pas tres heureux d'etre la) nous aiderent a porter les choses de l'entrepot a la caisse et a la livraison. Nous avions achete tant de choses (3 trolleys pleins) que nous etions vraiment heureuses que les 2 hommes nous aident a pousser les trolleys. Fatigue David s'endormit sur un des trolley... Incroyable comme il peut dormir n'importe ou!

We ended our busy evening by a good dinner of delicious fish (barramundi) and delicious ice-creams, "Brunetti, the best ice-creams in Melbourne , Danielle, Mish's cousin had told us). Myriam was heroic she did not take any...but she enjoyed the fish.

Nous avons fini la soiree par un bon repas de poissons (barramundi) et d'excellentes glaces "Chez Brunetti, les meilleures glaces de Melbourne nous avait dit Danielle la cousine de Mish". Myrian fut heroique, elle n'en prit pas... mais elle aima beaucoup le poisson.

Today rain and storms, no need to water the garden. We had the house's locks changed and Ikea delivered our purchases but will only assemble them next week.

Aujourd'hui, pluie et orages, pas besoin d'arroser le jardin. On a fait changer les serrures et Ikea a livre, mais le montage ne sera effectue que la semaine prochaine.

Quarantine called Myriam to say that Kai Phong had not eaten for 24 hours. Myriam was perfect, she asked them to spend time with Kai Phong and feed her by hand. Hope it will work. Only 2 days left and she will be brought to us on Friday morning.

La quarantaine a appele Myriam pour dire que Kai Phong ne mangeait plus depuis 24h, Mimi a ete parfaite, elle leur a demande de passer du temps avec Kai Phong et de la nourrir a la main. Pourvu que ca marche. Il ne reste plus que 2 jours et on nous l'amene Vendredi matin. 

We went to Glenn Eira Town Hall because Caulfield where we live depends from Glenn Eira and we have to register Kai Phong and receive a tag that she must wear at anytime. But as Kai Phong's passport is in French, they need to see her to check wether they can read her chip with their Australian scan. 

Nous sommes alles a la mairie de Glenn Eira dont depend Caulfield Nord ou nous habitons, pour enregistrer Kai Phong et recevoir une etiquette qu'elle doit toujours porter sur elle. Mais comme le passeport de K Ph est en francais, ils veulent la voir pour verifier si sa puce est lisible par leurs capteurs Australiens. 

So on Friday, once welcomed, kissed, petted and loved, we will take Kai Phong to the city Hall, 10 mn walk from our home, because without tag we are breaking the law if we walk her in the park. We will see how Kai Phong is, and if she is fit to go to the town hall, if not we will walk in hiding during the week-end and do the check up and paper work only on Monday.

Donc Vendredi, une fois accueillie, embrassee et cajolee, on ira avec Kai Phong a la mairie a 10 mn a pieds de chez nous, car sans son etiquette nous sommes dans l'illegalite pour la promener au parc. On va voir si Kai Phong est en etat d'aller a la mairie, sinon on se promenera illegalement pendant 2 jours et on fera le check up et la paperasserie Lundi.

We will have our first guests for dinner next Wednesday,  Sandy and Avi, wrong! before them we will host Boaz and Alma.... no time to get bored!

Nous recevrons nos premiers invites Mercredi prochain a dinner, Sandy et Avi, faux! avant eux, nous aurons Boaz et Alma ce soir.... pas le temps de s'ennuyer!

GETTING ORGANISED IN AUSTRALIA/ ON S'ORGANISE EN AUSTRALIE

Our new house is big, with a little garden at the front and another at the back, with a little pool at the back and many rooms in the house as well as in the shed, it's great, but it needs cleaning, watering, removing the dead leaves, trimming, mowing the grass, putting chlore and God-knows-what-else inside the pool...

Notre nouvelle maison est grande, avec un petit jardin devant et un autre derriere, avec une petite piscine et de nombreuses pieces dans la maison ainsi que dans l'annexe, c'est genial, mais cela demande a etre nettoye, arrose, il faut enlever les feuilles mortes, tailler, tondre l'herbe, mettre du chlore et Dieu-sait-quoi d'autre dans la piscine...

If I decide to be a super woman and do all that myself, + walking Kai Phong 3 times a day, I will have no time left to paint. By the way... Kai Phong "passed" the test and will only stay in quarantine for 10 days (instead of 3 weeks). She'll be back home next Friday morning. Well done Kai-Phong, Mazel Tov!!!!

Si je decide d'etre une superwoman et de faire tout moi-meme + de promener Kai-Phong 3 fois par jour, je n'aurai pas le temps de peindre. A propos... Kai-Phong a "reussi" le test et ne restera en quarantaine que 10 jours (au lieu de 3 semaines). Elle arrivera chez nous Vendredi prochain au matin. Bravo Kai Phong- Mazel Tov!!!!

The most important thing is cleaning the house, so I sent a text to Sandy (the Melbournien cousin of Mish, my sister in law from London) asking her if she knew a good  helper. Sandy gave me the mobile of - not a helper but "a cleaning lady" - (much nicer isn't it?) called Rosalia, advising me not to phone Rosalia but to text her. If you want to be efficient you have to follow the instructions!!! so I texted Rosalia and received an immediate answer : Rosalia is interested and will see me the following day. 

Le plus important est le menage dans la maison, aussi envoye-je un texto a Sandy (la cousine Melbournienne de Mish, ma belle-soeur Londonienne), lui demandant si elle connaissait une bonne helpeuse. Sandy me donna le numero de portable non pas d'une helpeuse mais d'une "cleaning Lady" - Dame de menage (plus gentil comme appellation, non?) du doux nom de Rosalia et me recommandant non pas de l'appeler mais de lui envoyer un SMS.  Si on vise a l'efficacite, il faut toujours bien suivre les instructions !!! Donc j'envoyai un SMS a Rosalia et recut une reponse immediate, Rosalia etait interessee et me verrait le lendemain matin.

Arriving just from Hong-Kong, I expected to see a tiny and frail little Philippino lady, but a stout and short westerner lady came with an accent I could not place. After having asked me where I was born, she told me she came from Poland. 

Arrivant tout juste de Hong-Kong, je m'attendais a une frele et menue petite Philippine mais une occidentale costaud et rablee arriva avec un accent que je n'arrivais pas a situer. Apres m'avoir demande ou j'etais nee elle me dit qu'elle etait Polonaise.

Mine G'ot!!! (Jewish or antisemitic?) She was wearing a sort of star of David necklace, but nothing else was Jewish in her. I asked, she told me : "no" but all my clients are Jewish" and I worked for the Ark (a synagogue). 

Mon Dieu!!! (Juive ou antisemite?) Elle portait une sorte de Magen David, mais rien en elle n'etait Juif. Je le lui demandai et elle me repondit : "Non" mais tous mes clients le sont et j'ai travaille a l'Arche (une synagogue).

Then I showed her the house and she proposed to start at once. She had all her tools in her car : "I am a professional cleaner she told me, I love my job" and she had a special Hoover which she carried on her back (it reminded me of Ghost Busters...). Indeed she looks very professional! It's good for the house to have someone around who enjoys cleaning!!!!

Ensuite, je lui fis visiter la maison et elle me proposa de commencer tout de suite. Elle avait tout son materiel dans sa voiture " "Je suis une professionnelle du menage, j'adore mon job"et elle avait un aspirateur special qu'elle portait comme un sac a dos (ca m'a rappele Ghost Busters...) elle a vraiment l'air pro! C'est excellent pour la maison d'avoir au moins quelqu'un qui aime nettoyer!!!

Rosalia cleaned my future studio and made a list of all the material she needed. What we had bought Myriam and I, in a supermarket "is good for you, but not for a professional cleaner! I'll get what I need" This ex-Polish now Australian Cleaning Leady is going to be an interesting character!!!!

Rosalia nettoya mon futur atelier et fit une liste du materiel dont elle avait besoin. Ce que Myriam et moi avions achete au supermarche " C'est bon pour vous, mais pas pour une pro du nettoyage! Je vais acheter ce dont j'ai besoin". Cette dame ex-Polonaise desormais Australienne semble un caractere des plus interessants! 

On Tuesday I am meeting David, the Pool guy and on Wednesday Kierin, the guy in charge of the garden. They are paid by tho owner, but if I have special requests it is on me... for instance if we want to plant more flowers, or fruit trees. We are also going to need a handyman, unless one of them can do the job. I hope they will be as fun as Rosalia...

Mardi je rencontre David, le gars en charge de la piscine, et Mercredi, Kierin le gars en charge du jardin. Ils sont payes par le proprietaire,  mais si nous avons des demandes speciales, comme planter de nouvelles fleurs ou arbres fruitiers, c'est a nos frais. J'espere qu'ils seront aussi rigolos que Rosalia... Il va nous falloir aussi un bricoleur... a moins qu'un des deux ne soit polyvalent.

Pet Travel Company's boss, Georges (a Hong -Konguese with a strong Northern England accent), sent us a photo he took of Kai Phong at the Fret Department in HK airport. She did not look happy....

Georges, le Directeur de Pet Travel Cie (Ste de transport d'animaux de compagnie) est un Hong-Kongais avec un tres fort accent du Nord de l'Angleterre, il nous a envoye une photo de Kai Phong au Fret de l'Aeroport de HK. Elle n'avait pas l'air epanouie....

Georges wrote to us that Kai Phong was very good during her last check up before the flight. I hope they gave her some water to drink...

Georges nous ecrivit que Kai Phong avait ete tres facile durant son dernier check up avant le vol. J'espere qu'ils lui ont donne a boire....

Now she is in quarantine et we should know today for how long. Either they found nothing and she will be brought to us in 8 days, or there were some inhabitants in her hair (such as ticks) and they may keep her for much longer. What a terrible suspens!

Maintenant elle est en quarantaine et nous attendons de savoir aujourd'hui la duree de son isolation, Ou ils n'ont rien trouve et elle nous sera rendue dans 8 jours, ou il y avait des habitants caches dans ses poils genre tiques...et elle doit rester beaucoup plus longtemps. Quel terrible suspens!

MY STUDIO / MON STUDIO D'ARTISTE

Voila quelques photos de mon studio d'artiste, quand j'aurai recu mes affaires de Hong-Kong je pourrai y peindre.

I will need a stool and a big table, for small paintings and a pole with some hooks to hung large size canvas.

J'aurai besoin d'un tabouret et d'une grande table pour les petits formts et d'un tuyau en metal et de crochet pour accrocher les toiles de grande taille.
