Yesterday evening we had guests for dinner, and David came too. When they left, I walked Kai Phong around home and completely forgot to put 2 of our dustbins outside. We have a small (there are only 2 of us living there) red lid dustbin for average rubbish, a big green lid one for recyclable greens such as branches, grass,dead flowers etc... a big yellow lid one for recyclable paper, cardboard and plastic bottles or wraps, as well as glass or tins (cans?).
Hier soir nous avons eu des invites a diner, David est venu aussi. Quand ils partirent, j'emmenai Kai Phong se promener et oubliai completement de sortir 2 de nos poubelles dehors. Nous avons une petite poubelle au couvercle rouge (nous ne sommes que 2 habitants dans la maison), pour les ordures normales, une grande poubelle au couvercle vert pour les vegetaux recyclables du jardin : branches, fleurs mortes, herbe etc... et une grande poubelle a couvercle jaune pour les plastiques, cartons et papiers, verres ou boites de conserves recyclables.
Every Wednesday evening I must put near the road the red lid garbage + either the green or the yellow lid one. When I am not sure I look at what the neighbors took out and I do the same. Yesterday I forgot and remembered this morning, at 7 am... but too late we will have to wait for another week....
Tous les Mercredis soir je dois mettre pres de la rue la poubelle a couvercle rouge + soit la jaune, soit la verte. Quand je ne suis pas sure je regarde ce que les voisins ont sorti et je fais de meme. Hier j'ai oublie et m'en suis souvenue ce matin a 7h du matin... mais trop tard, nous devrons attendre une semaine...
I am fascinated by the postmen here, with their yellow uniform and their motorbikes topped by a yellow flag. As we were passing by one, I asked him if I could take his photo he kindly and proudly obliged. So here is one of our postmen here in Caulfield..
Je suis fascinee par les facteurs ici, avec leur uniforme jaune fluo et leurs motos surmontees d'un fanion jaune. Comme nous passions a cote de l'un d'entre eux, je lui demandai si je pouvais le prendre en photo ce qu'il accepta gentiment et fierement. Donc voici l'un de nos facteurs ici a Caulfield.
This morning I took Kai Phong to the vet for a check up because she kept licking her paws and seemed in pain when she walked. She is 8 1/2 years now... getting older as we all do... so she has a stiff back and stiff knees (so do I) and the vet attributed her licking to the stress of the quarantine + new home. "No worry" as they say under there, it should stop soon.
Ce matin, j'ai emmene Kai Phong chez le veterinaire pour un check up parce qu'elle se lechait les pattes sans arret et semblait avoir mal quand elle marchait. Elle a 8 ans 1/2 maintenant... elle vieillit comme nous tous... donc elle a un dos et des genoux raides (moi aussi) et la veterinaire attribua ses lechages au stress du sejour en quarantaine et du demenagement. "Pas de souci" comme ils disent ici, ca devrait s'arreter bientot.
We walked back home from the vet's (1km 4) and on the way a guy asked me what dog it was. I said "a chow", he had never seen any. He wanted to know if it was a rare breed, I said "no, but uncommon here in Melbourne, originally, they come from Tibet..." He was very impressed : "A real Teddy Bear!" I try to look casual when people admire K Ph but in my heart, I feel very proud. I meet a lot of people thanks to her.
Nous sommes revenues a pied de chez le veterinaire (1 km 4) et en chemin, un monsieur me demanda quel type de chien c'etait. Je dis "un Chow-chow", il n'en avait jamais vu. Il voulait savoir si c'etait une race rare, je dis "Non, mais pas tres frequente a Melbourne, a l'origine, ils viennent du Tibet... il fut impressionne " Un vrai nounours!". J'essaye de ne rien montrer quand les gens admirent Kai Phong mais au fond, je me sens tres fiere. Je rencontre plein de gens grace a elle.
Two days ago, during the last walk, at night, a guy was walking his greyhound on the other side of the road. Kai Phong froze and stopped to watch the other dog, so the guy crossed to talk. "Very different dogs I said" "Oh you are French" and he started speaking in fluent French. He was wearing a sweatshirt with INSEAD on it, so I told him my husband went to INSEAD and we started chatting.
Il y a deux jours au cours de notre derniere balade du soir, un monsieur promenait son levrier en face dans la rue. Kai Phong s'arreta pour le regarder et le monsieur traversa pour bavarder. "Tres differents comme chiens" lui dis-je. "Oh vous etes francaise" repondit-il et il commenca a me parler en un francais parfait. Il portait un sweatshirt INSEAD alors je lui dis que mon mari etait un ancien de l'Insead et nous commencames a bavarder.

He was English born in Devon, lived in Indonesia, France, China, now teaching at Monach university here in Melbourne. He went to Insead and taught there, living 15 years in Fontainebleau where he still has a house. I said to him that he must meet my husband. He said he was living just round the next corner and asked me to wait for him, he would bring back his card with email and phone.
Il etait Anglais ne dans le Devon, avait habite en Indonesie, France, Chine et enseignait maintenant a Monach ici a Melbourne. Il avait fait l'Insead et enseigne la-bas pendant 15 ans, habitant a Fontaineblau ou il avait encore une maison. Je lui dis qu'il fallait qu'il rencontre mon mari. Il me dit qu'il habitait juste au coin a cote, et me demanda de l'attendre tandis qu'il allait chercher sa carte avec e-mail et telephone.
Just at that moment, Mark arrived in a taxi coming back from the airport, he had spent 2 days in Sydney, and I introduced them. They chatted a moment and we decided that after Easter we would invite each others with all our children. Thank you Kai Phong and Greyhound, thanks to you we made a new friend.
Juste a ce moment, Mark arriva en taxi de l'aeroport venant de Sydney ou il avait passe 2 jours, donc je les presentai. Ils bavarderent un moment et nous decidames de nous inviter les uns les autres avec les enfants apres Paques. Merci Kai Phong et le levrier, grace a vous, nous nous sommes fait un nouvel ami.
