OUR NEIGHBOUR'S EXHIBITION/ L'EXPOSITION DE NOTRE VOISINE

We live on the 7th floor on Tai Hang Road, and on the 3rd floor live Mr and Mrs Ng (pronounce Mrs M ... with a very nasal M from the bottom of the nose), is a well known artist of traditional Chinese ink scrolls or paper. She has many exhibitions where she kindly invites us and where we always go with great pleasure.

Nous habitons au 7e etage rue Tai Hang, et au 3e etage vivent Mr et Mme Ng (pronounce Mme M... avec un M tres nasal venant du fond du nez), Mme Ng donc est un peintre connu de peinture traditionnelle Chinoise a l'encre sur rouleau ou papier. Elle expose souvent et nous invite gentiment et nous y allons toujours avec le plus grand plaisir.

Yesterday was the opening of her latest exhibition, at Central City Hall but we could not attend so we went this morning. We arrived early, just before her... we could have shared the taxi! Mrs Ng was very pleased to see us and so were we... she kindly went along the exhibition with us explaining where the landscapes were in China and answering our questions.

Hier etait l'inauguration de sa derniere exposition a la Mairie de Central mais nous ne pouvions pas y aller, alors nous nous y sommes rendus ce matin. Nous arrivmes juste avant elle... nous aurions pu partager le meme taxi! Mme Ng etait ravie de nous voir et nous de meme,,, elle nous accompagna gentiment autour de l'exposition, nous expliquant ou etaient les paysages en Chine et repondant a nos questions.   

                                            

Mrs Ng also does calligraphy and said to us that she found it more difficult than painting.

Mme Ng fait aussi de la calligraphie et nous dit qu'elle trouvait ca encore plus dur que la peinture.

                    

Then she called a friend to take photos of the 3 of us so Mark gave his phone to the friend so that she can take a few more photos for us.

               

Puis elle appela une amie pour prendre des phtos de nous 3 ensemble alors Mark passa aussi son telephone a l'amie pour qu'elle en prenne en plus pour nous.

We asked Mrs Ng if she sold her paintings but she said she had not thought of that and did not know how much they were worth. (I understand her perfectly!) She did not seem interested in selling. I don't know if it was the Chinese  way to be polite... saying no several time before you agree to sell or if she did not want to be bothered. Anyway, it was wonderful of her to give us a private tour of her beautiful exhibition we really enjoyed that!

Nous demandames a Mme Ng si elle vendait ses peintures mais elle dit qu'elle n'y avait jamais songe et ne savait pas combien elles valaient. (Je la comprends tres tres bien!).Elle ne semblait  pas du tout interessee a les vendre. Je ne sais pas si c'est de la politesse chinoise et s'il fallait insister plusieurs fois avant qu'elle accepte ou si elle ne voulait pas etre embetee avec ca. Quoiqu'il en soit ce fut merveilleux d'avoir une visite personnalise par le peintre en personne et nous appreciames beaucoup son attention!

YELLOW STUNNING MOUNTAINS/ LES SPECTACULAIRES MONTAGNES JAUNES

The next morning, we drove one hour to the national Park where we took a local touristic bus to reach the cable car which brought us in the mountains. The view was already magnificent.

                                        

Le lendemain matin, nous fimes une heure de voiture pour nos rendre au Parc National ou nous primes un bus touristique local jusqu'au telepherique qui nous emmenerait dans les montagnes. La vue etait deja magnifique.

We were going to spend the night up there, but were only aloud to take a backpack with us, containing our things for the night and some clothes for the following day.

Nous allions passer la nuit la-haut mais n'etions autorises qu'a prendre un sac a dos avec nous, contenant nos affaires pour la nuit et du rechange pour le lendemain.

 After the cable car we walked in the mountains for two hours then had lunch in a local Chinese restaurant then walked again for 3 to 4 hours. Later, on the way to the hotel our guide, (and her cell phone), told us that we had walked 17600 steps and that she had won today, over all the other  local guides in number of steps done with her clients!  Hearing that made me feel totally exhausted at once, but we were reaching the hotel and could rest.

Apres le telepherique, nous fimes 2 heures de marche dans les montagnes, puis dejeunames dans un restaurant Chinois du coin, puis nous fimes encore 3 a 4 heures de marche, Par la suite, en chemin pour l'hotel, notre guide, et son telephone portable, nous dirent que nous avions marche 17600 pas et qu'elle avait gagne ce jour-la sur les autres guides du coin en nombre de pas effectues avec ses clients! En entendant ca, je me sentis soudain epuisee mais nous arrivions a l'hotel ou nous pourrions nous reposer.

I will describe again the Yellow Mountains again and again, because they are magnificent and were greatly appreciated by the Chinese artists, classical painters and famous poets. How did they reach up there, in the old days to contemplate the summits surrounded by a sea of clouds?

We had a good rest and were ready for more walk sin this dreamlike surrounding.

  

Je vous decrirai encore et encore les Montagnes Jaunes si appreciees des peintres traditionnels Chinois et des poetes. Comment a l'epoque parvenaient-ils si haut pour contempler les sommets emergeant d'une mer de nuages?

Nous nous reposames bien et fumes prets pour notre deuxieme jour dans cet environnement de reves.

                                           

                         

Our hotel was in the mountains and was very Chinese, not really beautiful, with lavish golden decorations, with great comfort and lots of space. To get there, there is only the cable car followed by 45 minutes walk on those concrete steps going up and down alongside the spectacular mountains. My bag was heavy and I was struggling but we made it. The food and the drinks arrive every day by porters who take 6 hours from the valley.

                                            

Notre hotel etait dans la montagne et il etait tres Chinois, pas vraiment beau, avec beaucoup de dorures et de brillant, beaucoup de confort et d'espace aussi. Pour y parvenir, il n'y avait que le telepherique et 45 mn a pieds sur ces  marches en beton qui montent et descendent a flanc de ces montagnes spectaculaires. Mon sac etait lourd et j'avais un peu de mal, c'etait dur mais on y est arrive malgre tout. La nourriture et les boissons arrivent par porteurs qui mettent 6h depuis la vallee.

We checked in, went to our room, emptied what we did not need from our bags, and went for another walk in the mountains. The evening arrived and with it, the mist rose like smoke, coming from nowhere... it increased and the mountains partly disappeared it was so beautiful, the mist disappeared, then came back... we were fascinated.

  

Nous nous presentames a la reception de l'hotel, allames a notre chambre, vidames ce dont nous n'avions pas besoin dans nos sacs lourds, et repartimes faire une autre marche en montagne. Le soir arriva et avec lui, la brume monta comme de la fumee, venue de nullepart... elle augmenta et les montagnes disparurent partiellement c'etait feerique, puis la brume disparut, et revint... nous etions fascines.
