HAPPY AUTUMN IN MELBOURNE/ HEUREUX AUTOMNE A MELBOURNE

Mid-May in Melbourne is like mid-November in the Northern Hemisphere, short days, cold arriving specially at night, and beautiful autumn leaves falling quickly.

La mi-Mai a Melbourne est comme mi-Novembre dans l'Hemisphere Nord, jours raccourcis, froid qui arrive surtout la nuit, et superbes feuilles d'automne  tombant rapidement.

But cold or hot, Australian are happy people, look at the eggs I bought in the supermarket. It's heart breaking to use them.

                                         

Mais froid ou chaud, les Australiens sont des gens au naturel heureux. Regardez les oeufs que j'ai achetes au supermarche. Ca fend le coeur de les casser.

Last Thursday we attended 2 concerts in Melbourne Town Hall. The first one was an organ recital at 6.30 pm. Melbourne Town Hall has the largest organ of the Southern hemisphere, "visitors can literaly walk through the instrument on supervised tours... The organ .."has 10.000 pipes capable of pumping 90.000 cubic of air per minute,". The organist was Dr Calvin Bowman and he was very good, he played Bach, Cesar Franck and Lang.

You don't realize from the concert hall, how big is the organ I suppose we will one day visit it behind the stage and walk inside.

On ne se rend pas compte de la salle de concert, a quel point l'orgue est immense. Je presume qu'un jour nous irons le visiter  derriere la scene et marcherons entre les 10 000 tuyaux.

 

Jeudi dernier, nous avons assiste a 2 concerts a la Mairie de Melbourne. Le premier etait un recital d'orgue a 6h30 du soir. La Mairie de Melbourne possede le plus grand orgue de l'hemisphere sud, "les visiteurs peuvent litteralement marcher a travers l'orgue au cours de visites organisees... l'orgue a 10 000 tuyaux capables de pomper 90 000 metres cubes d'air/ minute." L'organiste etait le Dr Calvin Bowman et il etait excellent, il joua du Bach, Cesar Franck et Lang.

The second concert in the same auditorium was Beethoven and Sibelius with Australian conductor Benjamin Northey and Australian amazing pianist Stefan Cassomenos.

On Friday dinner at home with David and Myriam of course, plus Boaz and Alma who had fell and badly hurt her knee. I hope she will recover quickly.

Vendredi soir diner a la maison avec David et Myriam bien sur, mais aussi Boaz et Alma qui etait tombee et s'etait fait tres mal au genou. J'espere qu'elle guerira vite. 

Yesterday Saturday, no central heating again but the technician came in the afternoon. How much we enjoyed our warm evening at home!!!

Hier Samedi plus de chauffage central a nouveau mais le reparateur est venu dans l'apres-midi. Comme nous avons apprecie ensuite notre soiree bien chaude a la maison!!!

David is going to France and England next week and will stay a month there seeing mathematicians and giving some seminars and I hope seeing family too. He has not return to Europe for almost 3 years now.

David part en France et Angleterre la semaine prochaine et y restera un mois a voir des mathematiciens a donner des seminaires et a voir la famille aussi j'espere. Il n'est pas retourne en Europe depuis bientot 3 ans.

Myriam wants to buy a car, she does not have yet the total driving licence, she can drive with someone with a local licence next to her. So Mark who has an international driving licence, got his Victoria State licence too and as soon as we get a car, he will be able to sit next to Myriam when she drives. I have only an old French driving licence and must exchange it for an international licence before getting the Victoria driving licence.

Myriam veut acheter une voiture, elle n'a pas encore le permis total, elle peut conduire accompagnee. Donc Mark a change son permis international pour un permis de l'Etat de Victoria et des qu'on aura la voiture, il pourra la superviser dans sa conduite jusqu'a ce qu'elle passe l'examen final. Moi j'ai un vieux permis francais que je dois changer en permis international puis je pourrai obtenir un permis de l'Etat de Victoria.

On finit avec des jolies fleurs et fruits australiens. Let's finish with pretty Australian flowers and fruit.

                   

              

Kai Phong still eats on the table that Mr Esteves our concierge's husband made for her in Paris, over 8 year ago when she was just a puppy. This table went to Hong-Kong and is now in Melbourne in our kitchen. Mr Esteves really did a good job there.

Kai Phong mange toujours dans ses gamelles sur la table que lui a fabriquee M. Esteves le mari de notre concierge a Paris, il y a plus de 8 ans quand elle etait encore un chiot. Cette table nous a suivis a Hong-Kong et maintenant a Melbourne. M. Esteves a vraiment fait-la du bon travail!
