Life with our furniture and all our clothes is really, really comfortable!  Let me show you our house furnished with what we brought from Paris and Hong-Kong over the years...

La vie avec nos meubles et tous nos vetements est vraiment, vraiment agreable. Je vais vous montrer la maison meublee de ce que nous avons apporte de Paris et Hong-Kong au fil des ans. 

                         

                           

We are not quite sure what to do with our Chinese screen that looked so wonderful in Hong-Kong but seems really strange in an old Melbourne house. It's in 4 pieces and we did not find the perfect place for it so far.


Nous ne savons pas trop que faire de notre "paravent" Chinois qui etait merveilleux a Hong-Kong mais semble plutot etrange dans une vieille maison Melbournienne. Il est en 4 parties et nous n'avons pas encore trouve l'endroit ideal pour lui...

We have bought an outdoor table and matching chairs and 2 deck chairs, it's like being in a holiday resort!!!!

                                                                 
Nous avons achete une table et des chaises assorties pour l'exterieur, avec en plus 2 chaises longues, on a l'impression d'etre en vacances dans un grand hotel!!!

Specially when we have colorful parrots visiting our palmtrees!

Surtout quand des perruches colorees s'installent dans nos palmiers!

My camera does not show them so well. I had a look on internet for better photos of those small like parrots. Mon appareil photo ne leur rend pas honneur, je vais chercher de meilleures photos de ces petits perroquets sur internet.

END OF PESSAH 2017/ FIN DE PESSAH 2017

In Melbourne we find delicious Kosher meat, a huge selection of lamb, beef, veal, both from Australia or New Zealand. There are many delicious chicken, sausages, cold meat too. For Pesach in kosher deli shops there was gelfiltefish and chopped liver.. However there was not a great selection of cookies and cakes. Thanks to David we found a delicious bakery called Klein but  closed on Sundays and during the whole Pessah week, excellent but really expensive!

A Melbourne nous trouvons de la delicieuse viande cacher, avec un grand choix d'agneau, boeuf, veau aussi bien d'Australie que de Nouvelle Zelande , il y a egalement d'excellents poulets, saucisses, et charcuteries. Pour Pessah, dans les traiteurs Cachers, nous avons trouve du gefiltefish et du foie hache, cependant il n'y avait pas un grand choix de gateaux et biscuits. Toutefois grace a David, nous avons trouve un excellent patissier appele Klein, helas ferme le Dimanche et pendant toute la semaine de Pessah aussi avec d'excellent gateaux hors de prix d'ailleurs. 

Today is the last day of Pessach, so tonight the 4 of us will enjoy pastas or pizza in a small restaurant round the corner.  (15mn walk).

C'est le dernier jour de Pessah aussi ce soir irons-nous tous les 4 nous regaler de pates ou pizzas dans un restaurant du coin (15 mn de marche).

When I walk Kai-Phong at night not far from home, there is a beautiful house from the end of XIXth century or very beginning of the XXth century, listed and described in books about colonial Melbourne. It now belongs to Chinese people who are lavishly refurbishing it and at night are putting horrible purple and green lights, like in China. It is so chocking that I took photos.

                 

I feel so sorry for the people who live on the other side of the road...and see that every night...

                 Je plains les gens qui habitent de l'autre cote de la rue et voient ca tous les soirs.

Quand je promene Kai-Phong le soir, pres de chez nous, il y a une belle maison de la fin du XIXe siecle ou du tout debut du XXe siecle qui est classee, et decrite dans des livres sur le Melbourne colonial d'autrefois. Elle appartient desormais a des chinois qui la restaurent a grands frais et qui la nuit l'eclairent avec d'horribles lumieres vertes et violettes, comme on le fait en Chine. C'est tellement choquant que je vous ai pris des photos.

 I also saw a long, long and strange flower coming out of a plant and I want you to see it. J'ai aussi vu une fleur bizarre tres tres longue, sortant d'une plante grasse et je veux vous la montrer.   

                       

Another thing I want to show you is the number plates of Melbourne's cars (Victoria State). In Australia, like in the USA there are several States which  have a large autonomy.

Une autre chose que je souhaite vous montrer est la variete de plaques d'immatriculation des voitures de Melbourne (Etat de Victoria) En Australie, comme aux USA il y a plusieurs Etats qui jouissent d'une certaine autonomie par rapport au gouvernement central.

Fun isn't it? If I see more I will add them to the collection. I don't know if they change the phrases every few years, or if people choose what they want for their number plate.

Rigolo non? Si j'en vois d'autres, je les ajouterai a la collection. J'ignore si ils les changent de phrase toutes les quelques annees ou si les gens choisissent ce qu'ils veulent pour leur plaque d'immatriculation.

I also want you to see a very modern house in Caulfield North where we live, as I always show you old quaint ones...

Je souhaite aussi vous montrer une maison tres moderne dans Caulfield Nord ou nous habitons car j'ai tendance a vous montrer surtout des maison vieillottes.

Tomorrow we have to put aside Pessah stuff, tomorrow our stuff from Hong-Kong is arriving between 7 and 8 am, (181 boxes to open and what is inside has to be put somewhere in the new house). The gardener is coming too, and another team from a furniture shop where we bought Myriam's bed which falls down on the right side. Busy day ahead of us! 

Demain nous devons ranger les affaires de Pessah, demain, nos affaires de Hong-Kong arrivent entre 7 et 8h du matin (181 cartons a ouvrir et dont le contenu doit etre range quelquepart). Le jardinier vient aussi et une autre equipe d'un magasin d'ameublement ou nous avons achete le lit de Myriam qui se casse la figure du cote droit. Journee chargee en perspective!

1st PESSAH IN AUSTRALIA/ 1er PESSAH EN AUSTRALIE

As our stuff has not arrived yet and as I did not want to buy more plates and dishes, I just washed again all our crockery, pans, dishes etc...in the dishwasher. 

Comme nos affaires ne sont toujours pas la,et comme je ne voulais rien acheter d'autre comme assiettes et vaisselles, j'ai juste tout passe au lave-vaisselle, poeles, vaisselles, plats etc...

This year no Seder at home, tonight we are invited by the Naphtali family and even if I asked Atida if I could bring or do anything, she refused politely so all I had to do for tonight, is send her flowers by Internet...

Cette annee, pas de Seder a la maison, ce soir, nous sommes invites par nos amis Naphtali et meme si j'ai demande a Atida ce que je pouvais apporter ou faire, elle a poliment refuse, donc tout ce que j'ai eu a faire pour ce soir, etait de lui envoyer des fleurs par internet...  

The second night we will go to a small Lubavitch Havura where the rabbis sing beautifully. It should be very melodious and even if I don't like non egalitarian shuls, musically it should be a great Seder and the 4 of us agreed to give it a try this year.

Le second soir, nous irons dans une petite communaute Loubavitch ou les rabbins chantent magnifiquement. Ca devrait etre superbe musicalement et meme si je n'aime pas les communautes non egalitaires, on devrait passer un tres beau Seder et nous etions tous les 4 d'accord pour essayer.

We are in a very adventurous mood. In Melbourne you have several "establishment" shuls which are rather empty and lots of small havura (Havurot) just 10mn from our home and we try a new one every Friday night.

Nous sommes d'humeur aventureuse. A Melbourne, il y a plusieurs shul etablies de longue date, qui sont plutot vides et plein de havura (Havurot) juste a 10 mn de chez nous et nous en essayons une nouvelle chaque Vendredi soir.

Both our Sedarim were lovely and enjoyable, in very different styles, the 4 of us were very happy.

Nos 2 Sedarim furent tres reussis dans des styles tres differents. Nous fumes tous 4 ravis.

And today in the sky near home planes wrote a cross and a heart probably Christ = love - for Easter? Tomorrow Good Friday and Monday everything is closed and everyone gone on holidays.

                                                                   

Cet apres-midi dans le ciel pres de chez nous, des avions avaient trace une croix et un coeur - Le Christ est amour- sans doute pour Paques. Demain Vendredi et Lundi sont feries et les gens partent tous en vacances.

Mark, knowing my fascination for wombats, gave me a toy one, which I tried to give to Kai Phong. She played a minute with it but dropped it quickly.

Mark, connaissant ma fascination pour les wombats m'en a offert un en peluche, que j'ai essaye de donner a Kai Phong pour jouer. Elle a joue avec une minute puis l'a laisse tomber.

Our Hong-Kong furniture and stuff arrives Thursday and Friday, Banzai!!!!

Nos affaires de Hong-Kong arrivent Jeudi et Vendredi prochain Banzai!!!!

It's now 6.10 pm and there is a terrible noise going on for 30 minutes everyday : cicadas. The first day Myriam and I thought it was our neighbors' alarm as it is loud and shrill like an alarm but we found out it was coming from all the big all trees, it will stop when the cold weather will arrive killing them all.  What a noise!!!!

Il est 6h10 du soir et il y a un bruit terrible durant 30 minutes chaque soir : les cigales. Le premier jour, Myriam et moi avons cru que c'etait l'alarme des voisins car c'est fort et strident comme une alarme, mais nous nous sommes apercues que ca venait de tous les gros et vieux arbres, ca cessera quand le temps froid arrivera tuant toutes les cigales. Quel vacarme!!!.

THURSDAY 4/6 / JEUDI 6 AVRIL

Yesterday evening we had guests for dinner, and David came too. When they left, I walked Kai Phong around home and completely forgot to put 2 of our dustbins outside. We have a small (there are only 2 of us living there) red lid dustbin for average rubbish, a big green lid one for recyclable greens such as branches, grass,dead flowers etc... a big yellow lid one for recyclable paper, cardboard and plastic bottles or wraps, as well as glass or tins (cans?).

Hier soir nous avons eu des invites a diner, David est venu aussi. Quand ils partirent, j'emmenai Kai Phong se promener et oubliai completement de sortir 2 de nos poubelles dehors. Nous avons une petite poubelle au couvercle rouge (nous ne sommes que 2 habitants dans la maison), pour les ordures normales, une grande poubelle au couvercle vert pour les vegetaux recyclables du jardin : branches, fleurs mortes, herbe etc... et une grande poubelle a couvercle jaune pour les plastiques, cartons et papiers, verres ou boites de conserves recyclables.

Every Wednesday evening I must put near the road the red lid garbage + either the green or the yellow lid one. When I am not sure I look at what the neighbors took out and I do the same. Yesterday I forgot and remembered this morning, at 7 am... but too late we will have to wait for another week....

Tous les Mercredis soir je dois mettre pres de la rue la poubelle a couvercle rouge + soit la jaune, soit la verte. Quand je ne suis pas sure je regarde ce que les voisins ont sorti et je fais de meme. Hier j'ai oublie et m'en suis souvenue ce matin a 7h du matin... mais trop tard, nous devrons attendre une semaine...

I am fascinated by the postmen here, with their yellow uniform and their motorbikes topped by a yellow flag. As we were passing by one, I asked him if I could take his photo he kindly and proudly obliged. So here is one of our postmen here in Caulfield..

                        

Je suis fascinee par les facteurs ici, avec leur uniforme jaune fluo et leurs motos surmontees d'un fanion jaune. Comme nous passions a cote de l'un d'entre eux, je lui demandai si je pouvais le prendre en photo ce qu'il accepta gentiment et fierement. Donc voici l'un de nos facteurs ici a Caulfield.

This morning I took Kai Phong to the vet for a check up because she kept licking her paws and seemed in pain when she walked. She is 8 1/2 years now... getting older as we all do... so she has a stiff back and stiff knees (so do I) and the vet attributed her licking to the stress of the quarantine + new home. "No worry" as they say under there, it should stop soon.

Ce matin, j'ai emmene Kai Phong chez le veterinaire pour un check up parce qu'elle se lechait les pattes sans arret et semblait avoir mal quand elle marchait. Elle a 8 ans 1/2 maintenant... elle vieillit comme nous tous... donc elle a un dos et des genoux raides (moi aussi) et la veterinaire attribua ses lechages au stress du sejour en quarantaine et du demenagement. "Pas de souci" comme ils disent ici, ca devrait s'arreter bientot.

We walked back home from the vet's (1km 4) and on the way a guy asked me what dog it was. I said "a chow", he had never seen any. He wanted to know if it was a rare breed, I said "no, but uncommon here in Melbourne, originally, they come from Tibet..." He was very impressed : "A real Teddy Bear!" I try to look casual when people admire K Ph but in my heart, I feel very proud. I meet a lot of people thanks to her.

Nous sommes revenues a pied de chez le veterinaire (1 km 4) et en chemin, un monsieur me demanda quel type de chien c'etait. Je dis "un Chow-chow", il n'en avait jamais vu. Il voulait savoir si c'etait une race rare, je dis "Non, mais pas tres frequente a Melbourne, a l'origine, ils viennent du Tibet... il fut impressionne " Un vrai nounours!". J'essaye de ne rien montrer quand les gens admirent Kai Phong mais au fond, je me sens tres fiere. Je rencontre plein de gens grace a elle.

Two days ago, during the last walk, at night, a guy was walking his greyhound on the other side of the road. Kai Phong froze and stopped to watch the other dog, so the guy crossed to talk. "Very different dogs I said" "Oh you are French" and he started speaking in fluent French. He was wearing a sweatshirt with INSEAD on it, so I told him my husband went to INSEAD and we started chatting. 

Il y a deux jours au cours de notre derniere balade du soir, un monsieur promenait son levrier en face dans la rue. Kai Phong s'arreta pour le regarder et le monsieur traversa pour bavarder. "Tres differents comme chiens" lui dis-je. "Oh vous etes francaise" repondit-il et il commenca a me parler en un francais parfait. Il portait un sweatshirt INSEAD alors je lui dis que mon mari etait un ancien de l'Insead et nous commencames a bavarder.

He was English born in Devon, lived in Indonesia, France, China, now teaching at Monach university here in Melbourne. He went to Insead and taught there, living 15 years in Fontainebleau where he still has a house. I said to him that he must meet my husband. He said he was living just round the next corner and asked me to wait for him, he would bring back his card with email and phone. 

Il etait Anglais ne dans le Devon, avait habite en Indonesie, France, Chine et enseignait maintenant a Monach ici a Melbourne. Il avait fait l'Insead et enseigne la-bas pendant 15 ans, habitant a Fontaineblau ou il avait encore une maison. Je lui dis qu'il fallait qu'il rencontre mon mari. Il me dit qu'il habitait juste au coin a cote, et me demanda de l'attendre tandis qu'il allait chercher sa carte avec e-mail et telephone.

Just at that moment, Mark arrived in a taxi coming back from the airport, he had spent 2 days in Sydney, and I introduced them. They chatted a moment and we decided that after Easter we would invite each others with all our children. Thank you Kai Phong and Greyhound, thanks to you we made a new friend.

Juste a ce moment, Mark arriva en taxi de l'aeroport venant de Sydney ou il avait passe 2 jours, donc je les presentai. Ils bavarderent un moment et nous decidames de nous inviter les uns les autres avec les enfants apres Paques. Merci Kai Phong et le levrier, grace a vous, nous nous sommes fait un nouvel ami.

   

MELBOURNE SUNDAY 02/04/2017 / DIMANCHE 02/04/2107

Yesterday afternoon (Sunday), Mark and I took Kai Phong to Caulfield Park as there was a brass band and Jazz band concert. On the way we saw many lovely birds and flowers.

Hier apres-midi, Mark et moi avons emmene Kai Phong au park de Caulfield car il y avait un concert par une fanfare de cuivres suivie d'un groupe de jazz. En chemin nous vimes plein d'oiseaux et de jolies fleurs.

In the park you have fountains for human and also for dogs. You also have bags distributors to clean after your dog. How clever!

Dans le parc, il y a des fontaines pour les humains en haut et pour les chiens en bas. Il y a aussi des distributeurs de sacs pour les dejections canines. Astucieux!  

From far away, we could hear the band which was in a big kiosk, playing marching tunes and other famous tunes which I did not recognized. The concert was organized by Caulfield Park Friends Association which had brought chairs and settled a tent in which they provided tea, coffee, wine for free. 

 

 

Nous pouvions entendre l'orchestre de loin. Il se trouvait dans un kioske a musique, et jouait des marches et d'autres airs celebres que je ne connaissais pas. Le concert etait organise par les Amis du parc de Caulfield qui avaient apporte des chaises, monte une tente dans laquelle ils proposaient des cafes, thes et du vin gratuits.

I told you that our swimming pool had holes, so we called a company specialized in pools leaks and their guy checked the bottom of the pool and found 8 holes!!!! You don't often have a frogman in your garden so I asked him if I could take his photo which made him laugh!

                      

Je vous ai dit que notre piscine avait une fuite, alors nous avons appele une societe specialisee en fuites dans les piscines et leur gars a trouve 8 trous au fond de notre piscine. Ce n'est pas souvent qu'on a un homme-grenouille dans son jardin alors je lui ai demande si je pouvais le prendre en photo ce qui l'a beaucoup fait rire!
