BOTERO IN HONG-KONG/ BOTERO A HONG-KONG

Before we left for Europe, Mark and I saw the exhibition of Botero's sculptures near Victoria harbor in Central. It was strange and beautiful to see those fat peoples and animals sculptures in front of Hong-Kong skyscrapers.

Avant de partir pour l'Europe, Mark et moi avons vu l'exposition des sculptures de Botero devant le port Victoria a Central. C'etait etrange et beau de voir ces sculptures de personnages et d'animaux obeses devant les gratte-ciel de Hong-Kong.

Botero's art is strange and makes me ill at ease however I find him very talented as a painter as well as a sculptor.

L'art de Botero est etrange et me met mal a l'aise, cependant je lui reconnais beaucoup de talent comme peintre tout autant que comme sculpteur.

  On the walk along the seaside, there were also a big bamboo kiosk and bamboo deck chairs where people rested. as well as giant chess boards that children enjoyed using.

Sur la promenade face a la mer, il y avait aussi un kiosque en bambou et des chaises longues en bambou sur lesquelles les gens se reposaient  ainsi que des echiquiers geants utilises par des enfants.

I had forgotten to tell you that just before the typhoon, the workers came urgentlly to dismantle our scaffolding. Mark took the following pictures.

                 

J'avais oublie de vous dire qu'avant le tyyphon, les ouvriers etaient venus d'urgence enlever notre echaffaudage. Mark prit les photos ci-dessus.

BACK FROM FRANCE AND ENGLAND/ DE RETOUR DE FRANCE ET D'ANGLETERRE

We came back yesterday from Paris and the North of England (Manchester and the Lake District).

Nous sommes rentres hier de Paris et du Nord de l'Angleterre(Manchester et la Region des Lacs).

I love my Paris flat, of Hausmanian style. There is so much light and so many windows, that the plants and flowers grow so well.Look at my orchids!

                                            

J'aime retrouver mon appartement Parisien de style Hausmanien. 
Il y a tellement de lumiere que meme en mon absence, les plantes et les fleurs poussent merveilleusement. Regardez mes orchidees!

Paris was amazingly empty. Paris is always empty in August but this year seemed worst as there were very few tourists compared to the previous years.

Paris etait etonnament vide. Paris est toujours vide en Aout mais cette annee semblait pire que les annees precedantes car il y avait tres peu de touristes.

We spent 3 days in Northern England. We flew to Manchester, where we stayed one night with Charmian and Charles, (Mark aunt and uncle) who were kind enough to invite all the cousins who were in town at that time for dinner. We had a great time catching up with all the generations.

Nous passames 3 jours dans le Nord de l'Angleterre. Nous primes l'avion pour Manchester, ou nous restames une nuit chez Charmian et Charles (la tante et l'oncle de Mark) qui eurent la gentillesse d'inviter tous les cousins presents en ville pour un grand diner familial. Nous passames une excellente soiree a appprendre les dernieres nouvelles des uns et des autres.

The following morning we took a train for the Lake District where Robin (Mark's brother) and his wife Mish have a house which is an old mill, in a beautiful village called Brigsteer.

Le lendemain matin, nous primes le train pour la Region des Lacs ou Robin (le frere de Mark) et sa femme Mish, ont une maison, qui est un vieux moulin,  dans le ravissant village de Brigsteer.

GOING TO PARIS TONIGHT/. DEPART POUR PARIS CE SOIR

We are going to Paris tonight and we arrive there early in the morning tomorrow Friday after 12.30 hours on the plane.

Nous partons ce soir pour Paris et arriverons la-bas tot demain matin Vendredi apres 12h30 de vol.

We will be back in Hong Kong on the 17th of August. Mardee and her family will stay in our flat to look after Kai Phong while we are away. Bye-bye!!!

Nous rentrons a Hong Kong le 17 Aout. Mardee et sa famille vont habiter chez nous pour s'occuper de Kai Phong en notre absence. Aurevoir!!!

WALK AFTER TYPHOON NIDA/ PROMENADE APRES LE TYPHON NIDA

I took Kai Phong for her usual morning walk, it was cooler than the days before, with occasional wind (the tail of the typhoon) everywhere, fallen branches and myriad of leaves on the ground. My friends the street cleaners are going to be VERY busy today.

J'ai emmene Kai Phong faire sa promenade matinale, il faisait plus frais que les jours precedents, avec du vent occasionnellement (la queue du typhon) partout des branches arrachees et des myriades de feuilles jonchaient le sol. Mes copines les balayeuses vont avoir beaucoup de travail aujourd'hui.

TAIPHOON NIDA NOW IN CHINA/LE TYPHON NIDA EST EN CHINE MAINTENANT

Taiphoon Nida arrived Hong-Kong during the night, there was a lot of wind, very heavy rainfalls. I could see the tree branches swaying from left to right in the night, it was beautiful and  spectacular. 

Le typhon Nida est arrive sur Hong-Kong durant la nuit, il y avait enormement de vent, occasionnellement des trombes d'eau. Je voyais les branches d'arbres se balancer de gauche a droite dans la nuit, c'etait spectaculaire et superbe aussi.

We live on an elevated part of Hong-Kong Island surrounded by a sort of jungle alternating with roads so even with very strong wind, (150 km/h) there was nothing flying in the air. It's more dangerous downtown where broken objects can hurt people and break windows.

Nous habitons dans une partie elevee de l'ile de Hong-Kong, entoures par une sorte de jungle qui alterne avec des routes, aussi meme avec un vent terrible (124 km/h) il n'y avait pas d'objets volant en l'air. C'est plus dangereux en centre ville ou des objets casses peuvent blesser les gens ou briser des vitres.

When there is T8, the transports are stopped, no buses, no ferries, no trains. Of course all the airplanes are cancelled and delayed till the end of the typhoon. There are a few MTR  lines working (underground). Schools are closed and people are not expected to come to work. The whole city stops and helpless, let the typhoon cross it...

Quand il y a T8, les transports s'arretent, pas de bus, ni de ferries, ni de trains, Bien sur les avions sont cloues au sol jusqu'a la fin du typhon. Il y a quelques MTR (metros) souterrains. Les ecoles sont fermees et les gens ne sont pas censes se rendre au travail. La ville s'arrete et impuissante laisse le typhon passer..

It will soon be one o'clock in the afternoon and then, T8 will be lowered to T3 which means that buses and trains will start working again and people will be able to leave their homes. I have not heard of casualties this time but there is still risks at sea and near the sea, as well as risks of landslides and floods in the lowest areas. This time too there were many floods in Lantau and in the New Territories.

Il sera bientot 13h et alors le T8 sera abaisse a T3 ce qui signifie que les bus et les trains vont circuler a nouveau et les gens pourront quitter leur maisons. Je n'ai entendu aucune perte en vie humaine mentionnee cette fois, mais il y a encore des risques en mer et en bord de mer, ainsi que des risques de glissements de terrains et d'inondations dans les terres les plus basses. Il y a eu cette fois encore, beaucoup d'inondations a Lantau et dans les Nouveaux Territoires.

In the streets, there are many fallen tree branches and leaves striped by the wind. I heard on the radio that about 100 trees have fallen, they will have to be cut in bits and removed. It's too early to say but Nida does not seem to have been too dangerous as people were well prepared and advised to stay at home. 

                                                      

Dans la rue il y a des branches d'arbres et d'innombrables feuilles arrachees par le vent. La radio mentionnait une centaine d'arbres deracines qu'il faudra decouper et emporter. C'est un peu tot pour l'affirmer mais Nida ne semble pas avoir ete trop dangereux puisque les gens etaient bien prepares et avaient recu la consigne de rester chez eux.

We will still have one or two days of wind and rain but then the sun will be back, however Mark and I will already be in Europe as we are flying to Paris this coming Thursday.

Nous aurons encore un ou deux jours de pluie et de vent et apres le beau temps reviendra, mais Mark et moi serons deja en Europe puisque nous nous envolons ce Jeudi soir pour Paris.
