END OF JANUARY 2018 : FIN JANVIER 2018

Our life in Australia  has been very quiet for the last 10 months, with sudden changes mid-January.

Notre vie en Australie a été très calme durant les 10 derniers mois, avec de soudains changements mi-Janvier. 

Mid-January, Mark found an important mission as a consultant in Sydney. He now goes there every Sunday evening till Friday mid-day. So far he stays at his club which luckily is in Sydney's CBD 10 mn from his work. He is so happy to be working hard again even if it means a lot of commuting. (Sydney is 1 hour by plane from Melbourne).

Mi-Janvier, Mark a trouvé une importante mission comme consultant à Sydney. Il y va désormais tous les Dimanche soir jusqu'au Vendredi midi. Pour le moment il reste à son club qui heureusement est dans le centre de Sydney à 10 mn de son travail. Il est ravi d'être à nouveau débordé de travail même si ça implique beaucoup de voyages aller e retour (Sydney est à une heure d'avion de Melbourne).   

Otherwise we went to see Wicked, a musical comedy we did not like. So we left during the interval. I hated the music and the voices of the singers.... it was unbearable. However Myriam enjoyed it and stayed till the end, while Mark, David and I ran away... We try a lot of different forms of art, and often have good surprises, but we all agree to leave if we are unhappy with a show or a concert or an exhibition.

Sinon nous sommes allés voir Wicked, une comédie musicale que nous n'avons pas aimée. Alors nous sommes partis à l'entr'acte. J'ai détesté la musique et les voix des chanteurs... c'était insupportable... Myriam  en revanche, aimait bien, et resta jusqu'au bout, tandis que Mark, David et moi nous enfuîmes... Nous essayons différentes formes d'art, et avons souvent de bonnes surprises, mais d'un commun accord, nous partons si nous n'aimons pas un spectacle, un concert ou une expo.

Friday 26 was Australian Day and a holiday so Mark came back on Thursday evening. Australian people have a barby (barbecue) on that day. We plan one day to get a barbecue too... but with the heath this week, our priority will be mobile aircon in our house which is hot when the temperature is over 35° for a long period! It's mostly important for Kai Phong.

Vendredi 26 était la Fête Nationale Australienne (Australian Day) aussi Mark est-il rentré le Jeudi soir. Les Australien font un barby (un barbecue) ce jour-là. C'est dans nos projets de nous en procurer un bientôt, mais pour l'instant la priorité est d'acheter des air-conditionnés mobiles pour les mettre dans la maison qui devient un four quand la température dépasse durablement les 35°! C'est surtout important pour Kai Phong!  

I am very angry with the birds who come to eat the seeds I buy for them because they also eat our cherry tomatoes even before they are ripe + they eat my horseradish leaves (Horse radish that makes you cry, is a must in Ashkenaze tradition for Pessah and I was so happy to plant one which is growing and thriving) and they ate my blueberries... If we want to have fruit or vegs, we must wrap the trees or plants with a net which is very ugly...

Kai Phong is not much of a bird watcher...

Kai Phong n'est pas terrible comme ornithologue... 

The bird on the right is new to our garden I don't know what it is... so far...

L'oiseau à droite est nouveau dans notre jardin, je ne sais pas ce que c'est,... pas encore... 

                                     

Je suis très fâchée après les oiseaux qui viennent manger les graines que je leur achète car ils mangent aussi nos tomates-cerises avant qu'elles ne soient mûres + ils mangent les feuilles de mon raifort (le raifort qui vous fait pleurer est un must dans la tradition Ashkénaze de Pessah et j'étais si fière d'en avoir planté un qui poussait très bien) ils ont aussi dévoré mes myrtilles... Si nous voulons avoir des fruits ou des légumes, il faut emballer les arbres ou plantes dans un filet ce qui n'est pas beau du tout...

I am complaining but I have a soft spot for my little flying hooligans ...

Je râle mais j'adore mes petits voyous volants...

The 2 birds on the left, Myna birds, live in our palm-tree above the swimming pool and both of them think they own the garden and try to chase all the other birds. They dare not chase the lorikeets (colorful bird on the right), nor the crows or the Australian magpie which are twice their size, but they chase the blackbirds and all the pigeons. Their nest is just above our pool and when the young ones are ready to fly, sadly some of them fall in the pool and cannot get out.. so in the morning I find dead young Indian Myna floating on the pool, which is very sad. 

Les 2 oiseaux à gauche, des Mainates, habitent dans notre palmier au-dessus de la piscine et tous deux se croient propriétaires de notre jardin et essaient de chasser tous les autres oiseaux. Ils n'osent pas chasser les lorikeets (oiseaux colorés à droite), ni les corbeaux ou les pies australiennes qui font deux fois leur taille, mais ils chassent les merles et les pigeons. Leur nid est dans le palmer juste au-dessus de la piscine, quand les jeunes sont prêts à voler, hélas certain tombent dans la piscine et ne parviennent pas à s'en sortir, aussi le matin, trouvé-je de jeunes Mainates des Indes morts, flottant dans la piscine ce qui est très triste.


Yesterday, the temperature reached 40° and the night was very hot too. We all stayed indoor and ate thousands of ice-creams or sherbet scoops! I gave Kai Phong some vanilla ice-cream to cool her down as she was panting, it worked! Today forecast is only 33° and storms that will cool the temperature.

Hier la température a atteint 40° et la nuit fut également très chaude. Nous sommes restés à la maison et avons mangé des milliers de boules de glaces, esquimaux et sorbets! J'ai donné à Kai Phong de la glace à la vanille pour la rafraîchir car elle haletait beaucoup, ca a marché! Aujourd'hui on prévoit seulement 33° et des orages qui rafraîchiront l'atmosphère.

My brain does not work well when I am too hot and I can't find ideas to paint new things... So today Myriam and I will buy mobile aircons which we can put where ever we want to cool down a room, let's hope inspiration will follow the temperature drop!  

Mon cerveau fonctionne mal quand j'ai trop chaud et je manque d'idées pour peindre de nouvelles choses... aussi aujourd'hui Myriam et moi allons acheter des air-conditionnés mobiles que nous pourrons installer où nous voulons pour nous rafraîchir, espérons que l'inspiration suivra!
