VISIT OF ABC STUDIOS: VISITE DES STUDIOS D'ABC

En Australie, les mimosas sont en fleurs, très bizarre pour un Européen.

Yesterday Mark, Myriam and I visited ABC studios in Elstenwick a suburb not far from where we live. ABC is Australian BBC. They built those studios in 1956 and the studios opened in 1958 and are still in the same state, with the same sceneries as when they opened so it is absolutely strange and quaint, but worth seeing.

Hier Mark, Myriam et moi, visitâmes les studios d'ABC a Elstenwick une banlieue proche de là où nous habitons. ABC est la BBC australienne. Ils ont construit ces studios en 1956 et les ont inaugurés en 1958 et ils sont toujours en l'état, avec les mêmes décors que lors de l'ouverture donc c'est très étrange et désuet, mais ca vaut la visite.

The ABC studios are going to move and already started packing thousands of boxes full of strange objects of all sorts used for the scenery when shooting movies. We saw piles of suitcases from the forties, (movies about WWII period are very popular in Australia) sixties etc...

     

Les studios de la ABC vont déménager et on déjà commencé a préparer des milliers de cartons pleins d'objets de toute sorte utilisés pour les décors de films; Nous avons vu des piles de valises des années 40 (les films sur la période de la deuxième guerre mondiale sont très populaires en Australie.) 

Our guide was fun and nostalgic at the same time, he has worked for those old ABC Studios for more than 35 years. He enjoyed the old studios and their incredible mess. I was wondering how they could find anything in such an apparent disorder... probably someone knows  and remembers where everything is put in storage. No computer involved!

  

Notre guide était plein d'humour et de nostalgie en même temps, car il travaillait dans ces vieux studios depuis plus de 35 ans. Il les aimait beaucoup avec leur incroyable désordre. Je me demandais comment on pouvait trouver quoi que ce soit dans cette pagaïe.... quelqu'un sait probablement et se souvient de tout, sachant où chaque objet est stocké. Rien d'informatisé dans tout ça!!!

 

We visited a second studio that had just been used to broadcast a program and all the Australian visitors got very excited because it was a famous and very popular program.

Nous visitâmes un second studio qui venait d'être utilisé pour la diffusion d'une émission et tous les visiteurs Australiens semblaient très excités car c'était un programme célèbre et très populaire.

PARIS JUNE 2017 / PARIS JUIN 2017

We left Paris 4 1/2 year ago to live in Hong-Kong and we came back 2 or 3 times a year. It was sad for me to see my French friends always complaining, about the economy, the government, about the dim future. They did not seem to enjoy their beautiful city and their splendid country nor did they enjoy their lives. Most were retired. The city seemed empty after the terrorist attacks and with the arrival of the elections, nobody had hope. But this year, everything is different.

Nous avons quitte Paris il y a 4 ans 1/2 pour aller vivre a Hong-Kong et  sommes revenus 2 ou 3 fois par an. C'etait triste pour moi de voir mes amis francais se plaindre toujours de l'economie, du gouvernement, de l'avenir incertain. Ils ne semblaient pas apprecier leur superbe ville et leur magnifique pays. Beaucoup avaient pris leur retraite. La ville semblait vide apres les attaques terroristes et avec l'arrivee des elections, personne n'avait d'espoir. Cette annee par contre tout etait different.   

The new president Mr Macron, mostly elected not to vote for his populist opponent, also elected because he was almost new in poliics and had a very vague program. "We know the other candidates et we don't want to elect any of them again, we don't know much about him, but the situation is so bad now that we have nothing to loose by trying some one new." said all my friends on the phone.

Le nouveau president, M Macron, elu surtout contre son adversaire du deuxieme tour, et aussi parce qu'il etait quasi neuf en politique et presentait un programme tres flou. "Les autres on les connait et on n'a plus envie de les elire, lui on ne sait rien, mais au point ou on en est il n'y a rien a perdre" me disaient mes amis au telephone.

During our trip in Paris, we saw hope, everyone was again full of a hope that the new president and his government, with the help of the parliament just elected and favorable to Macron, would start the painful but necessary reforms of the French economy. Let's hope that he will achieve what he promised even if there are demonstrations, strikes, problems, let him do it!!!!

There is such a tremendous hope that it becomes scarry!!! 

Pendant notre voyage a Paris, nous avons vu l'espoir fou, tout le monde etait rempli d'espoir que le nouveau president et son gouvernement, avec l'aide du parlement qui vient d'etre elu et est majoritairement favorable a Macron, allaient faire les douloureuses mais necessaires reformes de l'economie francaise. Esperons qu'il fera ce qu'il a promis malgre les manifestations et les greves, malgre les problemes, qu'il le fasse!!! Il y a un tel espoir que ca fait peur!!!

PARIS LAST WEEK/ PARIS LA SEMAINE DERNIERE

In Paris, we saw many friends, invited some friends at home, had lunch or dinner with others. We went to Opera twice thanks to Chun Wing who was dancing in a production at Garnier and gave us 3 tickets for Mark, David and I. He also got us tickets for a dressed rehearsal of Carmen opera another night in Bastille Opera. 

Chun Wing now loves Operas, exhibitions, concerts, he has opened to other arts and is catching up very quickly. What an amazing and charming young man he has become... I feel so roud of him!

Mark and I also saw 3 exhibitions (Rodin and Gardens in Grand Palais and Pissaro at Marmottan Museum), we went to a wedding 2 hours outside Paris and had to rent a car and book an hotel in Sologne. 

A Paris, nous avons vu beaucoup d'amis, en avons invite certains a la maison, avons dejeune ou dine avec d'autres. Nous sommes alles a l'opera 2 fois grace a Chun Wing, qui dansait dans une production a Garnier et nous a donne 3 billets pour Mark, David et moi. Il nous a aussi obtenu des billets pour la Repetition generale de Carmen (L'opera) a Bastille un autre soir.

Chun Wing maintenant apprecie l'opera, les concerts et les expositions. Il s'est ouvert aux autres arts et se cultive a grands pas en rattrapant son retard. Il est devenu un jeune homme fantastique et charmant! Je me sens tres fiere de lui!

Mark et moi vimes aussi 3 expositions Rodin et Jardins au Grand Palais, et Pissaro à Marmottan, plus tard, nous nous rendimes a un mariage  a 2h de Paris et dumes louer une voiture et prendre un hotel en Sologne.

I had the pleasure of hosting my late brother's son whom I call 'Mr my nephew' during the week-end. I had not seen him for a long time and was so happy to see him again. He came on Friday night and sang Zmirot with us (he is very good) we had fun.

J'ai eu le plaisir d'accueillir le fils de mon frère disparu, mon neveu que j'appelle "Monsieur mon neveu" pendant le week-end. Je ne l'avais pas vu depuis longtemps et fus ravie de le retrouver. Il vint Vendredi soir et chanta des Zmitrot avec nous (il est très bon) nous nous amusames bien.

Mark, David and I went away to the wedding on Saturday and Sunday morning. On our way back to Paris, we also saw Serge (86 and cursed with Alzheimer disease) our former gardener from La Saugeraie, and Nicole his wife(80) who cleaned the house for a long long time. We were so happy to see them again for, in my heart, after 60 years at our service, they are part of the family.

Mark, David et moi partimes a un mariage le Samedi et Dimanche matin. En chemin de retour a Paris, nous allames voir Serge (86 ans et hélas Alzheimer) notre ancien jardinier à la Saugeraie notre maison de campagne familiale et Nicole sa femme (80 ans) qui nettoya et entretint notre maison pendant si longtemps. Nous étions enchantés de les retrouver, car dans mon coeur, après 60 ans à notre service, ils font partie de la famille.

We also went to a concert of Hazanut (Jewish liturgy) on Sunday evening with Mr my nephew and Chun Wing. It was deeply moving because the Hazanim (cantors) were among the best I ever heard! Jewish music is so important to me that it makes me feel very emotional when beautifully sung. 

Nous assistames aussi a un concert de Hazanout (Liturgie Juive) le Dimanche soir avec Monsieur mon neveu, David et Chun Wing. Ce fut très emouvant car les Hazanim (chantres juifs) étaient parmi les meilleurs qu'il m'ait jamais été donne d'entendre! La musique juive m'émeut beaucoup quand elle est bien chantée.

During our stay in Paris there was a heatwave : we had 34 to 37 degrees which is very very hot specially at night! 

Pendant notre sejour a Paris il y avait la canicule avec 34 a 37 degrés ce qui est très, très chaud, surtout la nuit!

Then we headed for 2 days in Hong Kong where we saw Jean and Liat who invited us in a delicious vegetarian restaurnat in Causeway Bay. We also saw Benjamin T, (my cousin's son) and Caroline a cousin of Mish the wife of Robin (Mark's brother's wife). Today Benjamin T  who after our lunch flew from HK to Seoul then Busan to join his very pregnant wife Yona. Just in time for the birth because yesterday, they had a baby girl called Lael.I wish the newborn baby a happy and serene life!

                                

              

Puis nous partimes pour 2 jours a Hong Kong ou nous vimes Jean et Liat qui nous invitèrent dans un délicieux et superbe restaurant végétarien à Causeway Bay. Nous vimes aussi Benjamin T (le fils de mon cousin Daniel) et Caroline la cousine de ma belle-soeur Mish de Londres. Après le déjeuner Benjamin s'envola pour Seoul et Busan rejoindre son épouse Yona très, très enceinte. Juste à temps car hier, ils ont eu une petite fille appelée Lael à qui je souhaite une vie heureuse et sereine.

                             

BACK FROM EUROPE/ DE RETOUR D'EUROPE

Mark and I spent 2 weeks away from home. First we flew to Hong-Kong, where we saw Mardee our former Helper. We also saw Chun Wing's parents in a vegetarian restaurant near our hotel. we stayed at the Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay.

It is runing old but is very conveniently located in an area of Hong-Kong we like and know very well. The Excelsior has a fantastic view over Victoria Harbour.

Mark et moi venons juste de passer  2 semaines loin de la maison. Nous avons tout d'abord été à Hong-Kong où nous avons vu Mardee, notre ancienne femme de ménage. Nous avons aussi rencontré les parents de Chun Wing dans un restaurant végétarien pas loin de notre hotel. Nous restames à l'hotel Excelsior a Causeway Bay, cet hotel vieillit pas mal mais il est situé dans une quartier que nous aimons beaucoup et connaissons bien. L'Excelsior a une superbe vue sur le Port Victoria.

Then we went to Paris where I had lunch with my friend Claudie whom I met almost every morning during several years while walking Kai Phong at le Ranelagh.  Claudie's dog is a female- a French bouledogue called Diva.

                                                                         

Puis nous partimes pour Paris ou je déjeunai avec mon amie Claudie que j'ai connue au Ranelagh en promenant nos chiens Kai Phong et Diva un bouledogue français.

MELBOURNE 04/06/2017

Last Thursday, we went to the NGV (National Galery of Victoria) which is both a State museum and a National one. We saw a small exhibition on "Bouddha's smile". Then Mark had a meeting and I went to another building of the NGV on the other side of  St Kilda road and of the bridge over the river, on Federation Square.

Jeudi dernier, nous sommes alles au NGV (Musee National de Victoria) qui est a la fois un musee de l'Etat de Victoria et un musee National. Nous vimes une petite exposition sur "le sourire de Boudha".Puis Mark avait un rendez-vous donc je me rendis dans l'annexe du NGV de l'autre cote de la rue St Kilda et du pont sur la riviere,  au Parc de la Federation.

Dans ce building, je vis de la peinture Australienne et de la peinture des Indigenes Australiens ou de la peinture montrant les Indigenes .

                            

   

Then Mark and I had a quick dinner and we went to see the ballet Nut Cracker, an Australian production strange because the story was in Australia and an ageing Russian ballerina, on a Xmas night (summer in Australia) was remembering her past glory....in Russia as well as in Australia, she also remembered her beloved Russian officer killed during the Bolchevick revolution.

Puis Market moi dinames rapidement et allames voir le ballet Casse-noisette, une production Australienne etrange car l'histoire se situait en Australie et une danseuse Russe tres agee, une nuit de Noel (donc en ete en Australie) se souvenait de sa gloire passee.... en Russie et en Australie et de son amour pour un officier Russe tue lors de la revolution.

On Friday evening, we tried a new Shul : St Kilda synagogue, enormous with a beautiful building. Not many congregants attending the service but an amazing male choir !!!! worth coming once.

Vendredi soir, nous essayames une nouvelle Synagogue : la synagogue de St Kilda, enorme, magnifique, mais avec peu de fideles lors de l'office par contre, avec un choeur masculin magnifique!!! ca valait la peine de voir ca une fois.

On Saturday around noon, my cousin's daughter who lives in Melbourne (Valentine Sabouraud), and has written a book in French  about the city, was signing her book at Cocorico a French bakery in Glen Huntley road (30 mn walk from home). We had already bought her book on internet but we went to ask her to sign it for us. I had met Valentine once at a big Servan-Schreiber family gathering and it was nice seeing her again.

Samedi vers midi, la fille de ma cousine, qui s'appelle Valentine Sabouraud, et habite a Melbourne, qui a de plus ecrit un livre en Francais sur cette ville, signait son ouvrage dans une boulangerie francaise appelee Cocorico, a Glen Huntley road (30 mn a pied de chez nous). Nous avions deja achete son livre sur internet, mais nous allames la voir et le faire dedicacer. J'avais rencontre Valentine une fois a un grand rassemblement de la famille Servan-Schreiber et ce fut sympa de la revoir.

In the evening as we are now friends of the NGV Museum, we were invited to the annual Winter banquet in the museum. That gave us an opportunity to see again the Van Gogh exhibition, specially open in the evening for the Friends of the Museum, then to attend an amazing dinner with totally unknown people. 

Le soir, comme nous sommes desormais Amis du NGV, nous etions invites au Grand Banquet annuel d'Hiver dans le musee. Cela nous donna l'occasion de revoir l'exposition "Van Gogh et les saisons.", specialement ouverte le soir pour les Amis du Musee et de participer a un diner etonnant parmi des gens totalement inconnus de nous.

 

  

 Our neigbours on both side of the table were very interesting, absolutely charming and friendly, they told us what to see around Melbourne and which art galleries to visit. One man was a carpenter only working for special orders, two women were publishers. The food was delicate and delicious, the Australian wines were so good that Mark wrote their name to remember and we had a great evening. There were 4 tables one for each season of the year, 250 guests, and we were at the "Spring table" decorated with tulips.

                                                       

Nos voisins des deux cotes de la table etaient tres interessants, absolument charmants et amicaux, ils nous donnerent des conseils sur les endroits a voir autour de Melbourne et les galeries d'art a visiter. Un monsieur etait charpentier, ne travaillant que sur commande, deux dames etaient dans l'edition. Le repas fut delicieux et raffine,  les vins Australiens si bons que Mark nota leur nom pour s'en souvenir, nous passames une merveilleuse soiree. Il y avait 4 tables, une pour chaque saison de l'annee, il y avait 250 convives et nous etions a la table "printemps", decoree avec des tulipes.

Today Sunday we will attend the 'Avant-Premiere" of a film : Churchill, and the money goes to the Bne Brit's charities. We don't belong to the BB but our friend Danielle is very involved in ti.

Aujourd'hui Dimanche nous assisterons a l'avant-premiere d'un film : Churchill, et l'argent ira aux oeuvres du Bnei Brit. Nous n'appartenons pas au BB mais notre amie Danielle y est tres active.
