KADOORIE FARM / FERME KADOORIE

For a long time, we wanted to visit the Kadoorie Farm in the New territories but we only managed to get there yesterday (Sunday November 20th). The farm is very different from any European or American farms, it is located on several mountains and is very hilly so the small fields are all cultivated on terraces. 

                     

Ca fait longtemps que nous voulions visiter la ferme Kadoorie dans les Nouveaux Territoires mais nous n'avons reussi a y aller qu'hier Dimanche 20 Novembre. La ferme est tres differente des fermes Europeennes ou Americaines, elle est situee sur plusieurs montagnes aussi les champs de taille reduite, sont-ils tres pentus et cultives en terrasses..

On the top on one hill was the Memorial to the 2 Kadoorie brothers with a chinese style bridge, a chinese style roof with Magen David (Jewish star) on the top, and further on, a big Buddhist statue.

  

En haut d'une des collines il y avait le Memorial aux 2 freres Kadoorie avec un pont chinois a l'entree, et un toit de style chinois mais surmonte par un Magen David (etoile juive) et plus loin, une grande statue Boudhique.

The main attractions are at the bottom of the hills which are rather crowded, but we started by taking a shuttle bus to the top of the hills then went from hill summit to hill summits with a beautifull view, and met very few visitors up there, then we started coming down and visited all the main sites of interest.

Nous etions Mark et moi avec Benjamin Treves qui habite HK  avec sa femme Yona malheureusement souffrante. Benjamin est  le fils de mon cousin Daniel, il etait venu avec une de ses amies Suisse de passage a Hong Kong
Mark and I were with Benjamin Treves who lives in HK with his wife Yona who unfortunatly was unwell. Benjamin is the son of my cousin Daniel, he came with a friend visiting from Switzlerland. 

                                                               

Les attractions principales sont au pied des collines et il y a pas mal de monde, mais nous commencames par prendre un minibus jusqu'au sommet d'une colline, puis passames de sommet en sommet d'ou nous avions de tres belles vues, et ou nous rencontrames peu de visiteurs, puis nous entamames la descente en admirant et en visitant en route les principaux sites interessants.

Nous vimes dans les montagnes de jolies fleurs/ We saw beautifull lowers on our way in the mountains.

  

                                      

Down were animals mostly rescued and treated medically after road accidents, or abandoned by their owners, or smuggled illegally by wildlife traders and found by custom officers at the airport.

Plus bas il y avait des animaux surtout blesses puis soignes et sauves suite a des accidents de la route, ou abandonnes par leurs proprietaires, ou victime du trafic illegal d'animaux sauvages et saisis par les douaniers a l'aeroport.


There were also several beautiful orchids glasshouses. Il y avait aussi plusieurs serres d'orchidees.

  

   

Nous passames une excellente journee a la ferme Kadoorie. Ils font du tres bon travail, protegeant les especes en danger, soignant les animaux blesses, essayant de propager les legumes et fleurs locaux. 


We had a lovely day at the Kadoorie farm.They do a great job there protecting endangered species, curing wounded animals, trying to multiply and save the local flora, flowers as well as vegetables.
