DINNER WITH CHUN WING / DINER AVEC CHUN WING

As the Paris Opera is now closed for holidays, Chun Wing is spending a month in Hong Kong. He is so happy to be back here and to spend at last, a lot of time with his beloved family. We invited him for dinner with Karen, a Hong-Kong friend we met through our Paris friend Henri.

Comme l'Opera de Paris est en vacances en Aout, Chun Wing passe un mois a Hong Kong. Il est tres heureux de revenir au pays natal et de retrouver sa famille adoree. Il peut enfin passer beaucoup de temps avec eux. Nous l'avons invite a diner avec Karen, une amie Hong Kongaise que nous avons rencontree grace a notre ami de Paris Henri.

I tried to make a simple but fun decoration of the dinner table. 

                                       

J'ai essaye de faire une decoration de table simple mais amusante.

It was lovely seeing Chun Wing again, he has changed a lot physically, more mature, less "fragile teenager". He is a man now with broad shoulders and a sort of contained attitude which is very charming. He remains himself, very nice, very friendly, eager to learn.

C'etait merveilleux de revoir Chun Wing, il a beaucoup change physiquement, plus mur, moins "adolescent fragile". C'est un homme maintenant avec des epaules larges, une attitude retenue qui est tout a fait charmante. Il demeure lui-meme, tres gentil, tres amical, avide d'apprendre.

We drank Champagne to his success at Baccalaureat ! We are so proud of him, he DID IT!!!! He studied alone during his lunch time and free time in the week-ends. Bravo Chun Wing!!!!

Nous avons bu du champagne pour feter son succes au Baccalaureat! Nous sommes si fier delui, il l'a FAIT!!! Il a etudie tout seul pendant son heure de dejeuner et son temps libre durant les week-ends. Bravo Chun Wing!!!

We were very happy to see him back, and our friend Karen also seemed to enjoy his charming company.

 Nous etions tres heureux de le retrouver, et notre amie Karen a semble apprecier aussi sa charmante compagnie.

My painting is going slowly, I was interrupted by the scaffolding workers, then we had guests and I was busy preparing the dinner. Anyway it's far from finished but going well.

Ma peinture avance doucement, j'ai ete interrompue par les ouvriers venus mettre l'echaffaudage, puis on a eu des invites et j'ai ete occupee a preparer le diner. Quoiqu'il en soit, c'est loin d'etre fini mais ca avance bien. 

A typhoon seems to be coming close to HK we have signal T1 which means it is now 500 kms from us.I just had a look at HK Observatory's website, the typhoon is south from us, and later on heading to Laos and China... not for us this time. We'll just have rain.

Un typhon semble s'approcher de HK nous avons desormais le sitnal T1 qui signifie qu'il est desormais a 500 kms de nous. Je viens de regarder le site de l'Observatoire de HK, le typhon est au Sud de nous mais se dirige vers le Laos et la Chine... pas pour nous cette fois, nous aurons seulement de la pluie . 

HK University Station/ La Station Universite de Hong Kong

This morning, Mark and I attended a conference at Hong Kong U, organized by The Hong Kong Geographical Society about : "Why and what do the writers write?" (It is now the Hong Kong book Fair week and a million visitors should attend, many of them Mainland Chinese coming to buy books forbidden in their country. Mark and I will go on Monday to buy Englih books.)

Ce matin, Mark et moi avons assiste a une conference a l'Universite de Hong Kong, organisee par la Societe Geographique de Hong Kong sur : "Pourquoi et comment les auteurs ecrivent-ils?" (C'est la semaine de la Foire aux Livres de Hong Kong et un million de visiteurs sont attendus, parmi eux beaucoup de Chinois continentaux venus acheter des livres interdits chez eux. Mark et moi nous y rendrons Lundi pour acheter des livres Anglais.)

We took the MTR (underground-metro) and here some poster of Swan Lake and an exciting  fresco by artist Stella SO painted in 2014, seen in Hong-Kong University station which with 3 others, have just been opened in 2014.

Nous avons pris le MTR metro et voici une affiche du lac des cygnes et une superbe  fresque de Stella SO peinte en 2014, vues a la station Universite de Hong-Kong. Cette station et 3 autres ont ete ouvertes en 2014.

 

 

                             

This is the Hong-Kong I love : busy, noisy, crowded and so asian!!! Thank you Stella SO, you are very talented!!!

OUR 2ND PRIVATE SCAFOLDING/ NOTRE 2eme ECHAFFAUDAGE PERSONNEL

Hong-Kong summer is very hot and people don't use their air-conditioning all the time, they alternate with fans because air-cons cost a lot in electricity.We have the air-conditioning almost all day long, especially in the rooms where Kai Phong stays, as a chow-chow can easily die of heat stroke.

             

L'ete Hong-Kongais est tres chaud et les gens ne mettent pas la climatisation tout le temps. Ils alternent avec des ventilateurs car la clim est couteuse en electricite. Nous mettons l'air conditionne la plupart du temps surtout dans les pieces ou Kai Phong se trouve, car les chow-chows sont sujets a des coups de chaleur qui peuvent etre mortels.

So our air-condtioning which are very old, give up one after the other... and to change them and install the new ones, workers have to put  bamboo scaffoldings.

Donc nos air-condtionnes qui sont tres vieux, rendent l'ame l'un apres l'autre... et pour les changer, et installer les nouveaux, il faut que des ouvriers construisent de petits echaffaudages individuels.

  

It is usually mainland Chinese who do the acrobatic work. They are very young, and acrobatic... they arrive with many bamboo poles they fix iron triangles on the external walls of the flat and they fill them with bamboo poles which they keep together by very strong plastic threads. It is very dangerous as we live on the 7th floor, but those young Chinese are very fast to set up the new scaffolding, I always take photos because it is so amazing and it is so clever and so fast, and so Hong-konguese!!!

                       

Ce sont generalement des Chinois du Continent qui font ce travail acrobatic... ils arrivent avec de nombreuses perches en bambou qu'ils relient entre eux par du fil en plastique tres solide. C'est tres dangereux car nous habitons au 7e etage, mais ces jeunes chinois sont tres rapides pour monter un echaffaudage. Je prends toujours des photos car c'est epoustoufflant de rapidite et agilite et tellement Hong-Kongais!!!

The worker wears a scarf to protect himself from the sun, and he wears gloves because bamboo has many very sharp splinters.

L'ouvrier porte un foulard pour se proteger du soleil, et il porte des gants car le bambou a de nombreuses echardes tres effilees.

  

                              

                            

Watching them work so fast in such dangerous conditions is fascinating. They are so clever that there are few accidents. Tomorrow, other workers will come to take away the old machine ad install the new one.

C'est fascinant de les voir travailler aussi vite dans d'aussi dangereuses conditions. Ils sont si habiles qu'il y a peu d'accidents. Demain une autre equipe viendra enlever la vieille machine et mettre la nouvelle. 

Then the Chinese team will come back to remove the scaffolding. For bamboo scaffoldings Hip Hip Hip ... HURREY!!!!!

Puis les Chinois viendront enlever l'echaffaudage. Pour les echaffaudages en bambou, Hip,Hip, Hip, Hourra!!!

Just in time next week is supposed to break heath records according to HK observatory !!! We also expect a typhoon in a few days. 
Juste a temps, la semaine prochaine devrait nous apporter des records de chaleur selon l'Observatoire meteo de HK!!! On attend aussi un typhon dans quelques jours.

We did not have the typhoon but it rained heavily. Look at OUR OWN scaffolding with droplets of rain.

 

After the rain and with a cloud on its summit, the mountain looks like a volcano
Apres la pluie et avec un nuage sur son sommet, la colline ressemble a un volcan.

Nous n'avons pas eu de typhon mais il a plu beaucoup. Regardez NOTRE echaffaudage avec des goutelettes d'eau de pluie.
