PETRA Mid-March 2018 : PETRA mi-Mars 2018

We spent a day and a half in Petra and did not see the whole site which is huge. I did not expect it to be so vast. On the first afternoon we visited the museum and "the little Petra" a small part of this very old city which was inhabited by nomadic Nabataean who trade with their caravans along the silk road.  Nous passâmes un jour et demi à Petra et ne vîmes pas la totalité du site qui est vaste. Je ne m'attendais pas à ce qu'il soit si grand. Le premier après-midi, nous visitâmes le musée et "la petite Petra" constituée par un "quartier" de cette très ancienne ville habitée par les Nabatéens, des nomades qui commerçaient  avec leurs caravanes tout au long de la route de la soie.

I knew the Nabataeans were a local tribe but  did not know what they looked like. The museum gave me the answer: a strong Hellenic, Roman and Egyptian influence Je savais que les Nabatéens étaient une tribu locale mais ignorais à quoi ils ressemblaient, le musée me donna la réponse: Une forte influence Grecque, Romaine et Egyptienne.

                             

                                           

                     

Our guide had lived his childhood in the area, he was then a Bedouin shepherd, a nomad living in tents in the desert during the hot season and in caves in Petra's rocks during the cold season.

Notre guide avait vécu toute son enfance dans la région, c'était un berger Bédouin, nomade vivant sous la tente dans le désert pendant la saison chaude et dans les caves de Petra durant la saison froide.

After dinner, we saw a beautiful show at night at the entrance of Petra. It was magical walking along the narrow path under the very tall rocks with only candle along the way and arriving to the "Treasury", the most famous carved building of Petra.

 

Après le diner, nous vîmes un joli spectacle nocturne à l'entrée de Petra. C'était magique de marcher le long de l'étroit chemin sous les immenses rochers, avec pour seul éclairage des bougies le long du trajet et à la fin l'arrivée au "Trésor" le bâtiment le plus célèbre de Petra.
