Yesterday morning, I went to Glen Eira Town Hall, and attended a ceremony of VAJEX (Victoria Association of Jewish Ex Servicemen and Women Australia Incorporated). This association was founded by famous General John Monash and was commemorating 103rd ANZAC (all soldiers of Australia and New Zealand who died at war) and Private Gregory Sher Memorial Awards given to students of Jewish schools in Melbourne. Gregory Sher died in Afganistan and his parents give awards every year to students.
Hier matin, je suis allée à la Mairie de Glen Eira, assister à une cérémonie de VAJEX (Association des Ex Soldats hommes et femmes Juifs de l'Etat de Victoria) cette association fut créée par le célèbre Général Monash et commémorait le 103ème ANZAC (tous les soldats Australiens et Neo-Zélandais morts au combat dans toutes les guerres des XXè et XXIè siècles, ainsi que la remise de médailles en souvenir du jeune soldat Gregory Sher mort en Afganistan. Ces médailles sont remises chaque année, par ses parents, à de jeunes élèves méritants des écoles Juives de Melbourne.
The ceremony was very solemn and deeply moving, leaded by our friend Julie Leder who is Vice-president of VAJEX.
La cérémonie était très solennelle et fort émouvante, conduite par notre amie Julie Leder , la Vice-Présidente de Vajex.

The psalm 23 was read in Hebrew then in English, by Dr Michaël Cohen who also sung Kel Maleh Rachamim with his beautiful and powerful voice.
Le Dr Michaël Cohen lut le psaume 23 en Hébreu puis ne Anglais, il chanta par la suite Kel Maleh Rachamim de sa superbe voix si puissante.
A Veteran from Vietnam Simon Bloomer President of "Carry On" an association helping Veterans with psychological issues, talked beautifully. The Australian flag was lowered mid-mast and a young soldier in uniform played The Last Post on his trumped, followed by minute's silence, then the flag was raised again.
Un vétéran du Vietnam, Simon Bloomer, Président de "Carry On" une association qui soutient les vétérans ayant des problèmes psychologiques, parla de façon également émouvante. Le drapeau Australien fut mis en berne et un jeune soldat sonna The Last Post (équivalent de la sonnerie aux Morts), suivi d'une minute de silence puis le drapeau fut relevé.
Then there was a Kaddish and the awards were presented to the young students.
Puis il y eut un Kaddish et les récompenses furent remises aux jeunes étudiants.

The ceremony finished with the Australian National Anthem. Then refreshment were served bu I had to go back home to prepare lunch. La cérémonie s'acheva avec l'hymne national Australien. Elle fut suivie d'une collation, mais je dus rentrer préparer le déjeûner.
The French National Anthem is magnificent but much too blood-thirsty to my taste. Many people disapprove of it. Anyway I feel very emotional when hearing it...The Australian Anthem on the other had, is so sweet... so good-willing and meaning well, with a soft music that is surprising, but every one knows it and the whole country sings it happily and proudly.
L'hymne national français est magnifique mais trop sanguinaire à mon goût. Beaucoup de gens le désapprouvent. Cependant je dois avouer qu'il m'émeut beaucoup chaque fois... L'hymne australien en revanche, est si gentil... si bien-pensant et si plein de bonne volonté, avec une musique douce qui surprend, mais chacun ici le connaît et le pays tout entier le chante joyeusement et fièrement.
In the afternoon, Mark, Myriam and I took a special bus of the Historical Society of Victoria, touring around Toorak, a very posh suburb of Melbourne, and to see from outside the main mansions and listed houses. The ride lasted over 2hours, starting from a listed house which is now a Catholic school.
L'après-midi, Mark, Myriam et moi prîmes un bus organisé par la Société Historique de Vitoria pour faire un tour de Toorak, une élégante banlieue de Melbourne, et voir les plus belles et grandes maisons classées par la ville. Le départ se faisait d'une maison classée, devenue une école Catholique la visite des beaux quartiers dura plus de 2h.
