XMAS AT THE NAPHTALI'S / NOEL CHEZ LES NAPHTALIS

On Xmas day Mark, David and I were invited by our friends the Naphtali family who was celebrating Michael birthday in their magnificent country house in Mornington Peninsula.(1 hour south of Melbourne). They had 40 guests and their children, on a beautiful day. I am full of admiration for Atida who hosts and cooks for so many guests, she is amazing. Michael was happy to have some of his grand-children blow the candles with him. His son David and family who live in Hong-Kong and whom we know well could not come as they were skiing in the USA.

 

 

Le jour de Noel, Mark, David et moi étions invités par nos amis les Naphtali à célébrer l'anniversaire de Michael dans leur superbe maison de campagne sur la péninsule Mornington à une heure au Sud de Melbourne. Ils recevaient 40 invités et leurs enfants par une journée magnifique. Je suis pleine d'admiration pour Atida qui cuisine et reçoit autant de monde avec une apparente facilité. Elle est incroyable! Michael était ravi qu'une partie de ses petits-enfants l'aide à souffler ses bougies. Son fils David et sa famille que nous connaissons aussi car ils habitent Hong-Kong, n'étaient pas là car ils faisaient du ski aux Etats-Unis.

We had a great time, a wonderful lunch with lovely people, and we went for a walk and the children showed us an echidna.

Nous nous amusâmes bien, eûmes un délicieux déjeûner avec des gens charmants, puis allâmes faire une promenade et les enfants nous montrèrent une echidnée (sorte de hérisson aux grosses épines marrons et beiges mais qui a une langue de fourmiller car il mange des termites et des fourmis, c'est un monotrème - animal qui pond des œufs mais allète ses petits dans une poche).

LAST DAYS OF DECEMBER2017:DERNIERS JOURS DE DECEMBRE 2017

We have family from Strasbourg visiting us. Catherine Trèves, her  significant other Alain and our nephew Laurent Trèves are staying at our home in Melbourne. They came to Melbourne for the wedding of a Strasbourg friend of them who marries a Jewish Australian girl. They took the opportunity to spend some time with us and visit Uluru and Tasmania. It's the first time in Australia for Laurent and Alain, and the second time for Catherine.

Nous avons la visite de notre famille de Strasbourg. Catherine Trèves, son compagnon Alain et notre neveu Laurent Trèves restent chez nous à Melbourne. Ils y sont venus pour le mariage d'un ami Strasbourgeois qui épouse une jeune juive Australienne. Ils ont donc profité de l'occasion pour nous rendre visite et visiter Uluru et la Tasmanie. C'est la première fois en Australie pour Laurent et Alain et la seconde pour Catherine.

We took them yesterday to a country park called Churchill country park where we saw a few wild Kangaroos. It was hot and they stayed in the shade and wee hard to spot but we were so glad to find a few and to see colourful birds in the trees. We had a pique-nique on a hill from which we had a beautiful view on Melbourne CBD,s skyscrapers.

 

Hier nous les avons emmenés dans un parc national appelé parc Churchill où nous vîmes quelques kangourous sauvages. Comme il faisait chaud, ils étaient à l'ombre ce qui les rendait difficiles à voir mais nous fûmes ravis d'en découvrir quelques uns et de voir des oiseaux colorés haut dans les arbres. Nous prîmes notre pique-nique au sommet d'une colline d'où l'on avait une belle vue au loin sur les gratte-ciel du CBD de Melbourne.

  

Then we went to visit Australian botanical park which only has local species and man made new breeds of those endemic plants.

   

 

Puis nous sommes allés voir un jardin botanique de plantes uniquement australiennes ou de nouvelles variétés de ces plantes, crées par l'homme.

 

 

 

OUR NEWS DURING HANOUKKAH/ NOS DERNIERES NOUVELLES PENDANT HANOUCCAH

On Monday the 11th we saw a very good play "Father" about ageing... very good actors and very dark description of dementia....terribly scary!  

Lundi 11 nous avons vu une excellente pièce de théatre "Père" sur la vieillesse... excellents acteurs et description très sombre de la Démence sénile... effrayant!

On Friday 15th I spent all afternoon at shul, helping to cook a family dinner for young families with children. There were 80 people, among them 40 children and our team of cooks was very busy but we also had fun. Once everything was ready I went back home to cook our own shabbat dinner... Exhausting but worthwhile!

Vendredi 15, j'ai passé toute l'après-midi à cuisiner à la shul pour préparer un diner de jeunes familles avec enfants. Il y avait 80 personnes dont 40 enfants. et notre équipe de cuisiniers fut très occupée mais s'amusa bien aussi. Quand tout fut prêt, je rentrai à la maison préparer notre propre diner de Chabat... Fatigant tout ça, mais ça valait la peine! 

 

On Sunday we had guests for Hanouccah and after dinner we went to Caulfield Park with them to see the fireworks organised by the Loubavitch... I don't appreciate their Judaism but I must recon  they are very active and their fireworks were wonderful! 

 

                            

Dimanche dernier nous avons eu des invités pour Hanouccah et après le diner nous sommes allés au parc de Caulfield voir les feux d'artifice organisés par les Loubavitchs... Je n'apprécie pas leur forme de Judaïsme mais je dois reconnaître qu'ils sont très dynamiques et que leurs feux d'artifices étaient merveilleux.

                  

The weather is very hot again, and I can only walk Kai Phong in the morning and at night. She spends the rest of the day  under he air conditioning...

Il fait à nouveau très chaud, et je ne peux promener Kai Phong que le matin et la nuit venue. Elle passe le reste de la journée sous l'air conditionné.
