Last Wednesday, I attended our shul's choir rehearsal. I knew half of the songs, (many of them are in Hebrew, some in Yiddish, some are Russian songs, sung in Russian or in Hebrew.) The tunes are easy, even if you don't know them, you can guess what the melody is going to be and sing along with the others. The only problems are Russian prononciation (the rrrrrrrr among others) and the Yiddish : Ich is pronounced Ihr etc...
Mercredi denrier, je suis allée à une répétition du chœur de notre shul. Je connaissais la moitié des chansons, (beaucoup sont en Hébreu, certaines en Yiddish, d'autres encore sont des chants Russes, chantés en Russe ou en Hébreu. Les airs sont faciles, on peut deviner le cours de la mélodie et chanter avec les autres. Les seuls problèmes pour moi, sont la prononciation russe (le rrrrrr, entre autres) et le Yiddich : Ich se prononce Ihr etc...
The Nitzanim (Kehilat Nitzan's choir) give a concert on a Sunday, once a month in Old age Care Homes and just rehearse the previous Wednesday. The Nitzanim choristes do not pretend to be good, experimented choristes, they describe themselves as "people loving to sing" and they want their audience to join in by singing along with them and/or clapping in their hands or singing "lalala" if they know the tune and not the words. So, I found very easy to join them and I really enjoyed singing with them during this performance! After the concert, we had a lovely tea at Judy's, one of the choristes, home, round the corner.
Les Nitzanim, (la chorale de Kehilat Nitzan) donnent un concert par mois, un Dimanche, dans une maison de retraite pour personnes agées, ils répètent seulement le Mercredi qui précède. Les Nitzanim ne prétendent pas être bons, ni expérimentés, ils se décrivent comme "des gens adorant chanter" et ils encouragent leur public à chanter avec eux et/ou à taper des mains en mesure, ou encore à chanter "lalala" si ils connaissent l'air mais pas les paroles. Aussi ai-je trouvé très facile de chanter avec eux et de participer à cette représentation. Aprè le concert, nous avons tous pris le thé tout près, chez Judy, l'une des choristes.
