Today 30 August, I am expecting a plumber and the pool guys are back to work. In Paris, Chun Wing came back from Hong-Kong (before the arrival of two major typhoons) and is getting ready to start rehearsals for Paris Opera ballet and for 3ème étage, AND he is going to start on top of all that, his student life.
Aujourd'hui 30 Août, j'attends le plombier et les gars de la piscine sont revenus travailler. A Paris, Chun Wing est rentré de Hong-Kong (avant les 2 typhons terribles) et se prépare à recommencer les répétitions pour le ballet de l'Opéra de Paris et pour 3ème Etage, ET il va commencer en plus de tout ça, sa vie d'étudiant.
Meanwhile, Mark and I attended a rehearsal of Australian Ballet and also a talk with 2 very famous visiting American dancers : Gillian Murphy and David Hallberg. There is no doubt that the greatest dancers have a very good brain. Those two were opened-minded, with a sense of humour, they were kind and respectful as well as VERY bright. When asked what was special or different in down under's Australian Ballet, they said : "The kindness of everyone in the Ballet, no fierce competition, they are all helpful and friendly, which contribute to the wonderful atmosphere among this corps de ballet. Gillian Murphy added that she had been surprised by the strenght of the boys when carrying the ballerinas for un "Porter", they are all so strong and we feel so safe." Yesterday we saw David Hallberg in a Balanchine's ballet, he was wonderful.
Pendant ce temps, Mark et moi avons assisté à une répétition générale de l'Australian Ballet, ainsi qu'à une conversation avec 2 célèbres danseurs américains en visite à Melbourne : Gillian Murphy et David Hallberg. Il n'y a pas de doute, les grands danseurs sont très intelligents. Ces deux-là étaient très ouverts d'esprit, ils avaient un sens de l'humour, ils étaient gentils et repectueux aussi bien que TRES astucieux. Lorsqu'on leur a demandé ce qu'il y avait de particulier dans le Ballet Australien ils répondirent : "L'ambiance au sein du corps de ballet, qui est très agréable, pas de féroce compétition, ils sont amicaux et s'entr'aident ce qui contribue à la bonne atmosphère au sein de ce ballet. Gillian Murphy ajouta qu'elle avait été surprise par la force des garçons au cours des "Porter", "Ils sont tous si costauds qu'on se sent très en sécurité". Hier Mark et moi avons vu David Hallberg sur scène dans un ballet de Balanchine, il était merveilleux.
We also attended David's 3rd PhD completion. He was amazing, very clear when he spoke (for one hour), very relaxed, answering the final questions with ease and precision. Mark and I were really impressed.... He is so different, so self-confident when he speaks of maths... He was also funny, wearing a policeman cap when talking of "Cops and Robbers on a graph" or wearing a Fireman cap when talking of "Firemen and fires". His teacher looked so proud and happy to see him do so well. I was bursting with pride even if I only understood 1/3 of what he was saying.
Nous avons aussi assisté à la 3ème "completion" de David (étape annuelle du PhD en Australie). Il fut incroyable, très détendu, répondant aux questions finales avec aisance et précision. Mark et moi étions très impressionnés... Il est différent, très affirmé quand il parle de maths... Il était aussi drôle, portant une casquette de policier quand il parlait de Policiers et Voleurs sur un Graphe" et une casquette de Pompier quand il parlait de "Pompier et Incendies". Son prof avait l'air très fier et heureux de le voir se débrouiller si bien. Je rayonnais de fierté, même si je ne comprenais qu'un tiers de ce qu'il racontait.
We also attended a conference on Shofar (a ram horn that Jews blow for the Jewish New Year and the Day of Atonement).
Nous avons aussi entendu une conférence sur le Chofar (une corne de bélier que les Juifs sonnent le jour de l'An Juif et le jour de Kipour).
We saw an Indian theatre play very funny; we attended the General Assembly of our shul and Mark is now their official Treasorer, role he occupied for 7 years in our French shul...
Nous avons vu une pièce Indienne très drôle; nous avons assisté à l'assemblée générale de notre synagogue et Mark est désormais leur trésorier officiel, rôle qu'il occupa durant 7 ans dans notre shul parisienne...
I am preparing a Zmirot dinner (Shabbat songs singing dinner) this coming Friday for 30 people, Myriam and Mark will help me to prepare and decorate the shul's dinning room and the food.
Je prépare un diner Zmirot (Chants de Chabat lors d'un diner chantant) ce Vendredi pour 30 personnes, Myriam et Mark vont m'aider pour la préparation de la décoration de la salle à manger et des plats.
Waouh, I forgot to tell you that we have 2 big rats coming to eat the birds food in our garden... I put rats poison under the deck, where Kai Phong cannot reach it... but so far it did not work. Those rats are very clever... Wen I hung the grains on a tree, they just climbed the trunk, then the branches, to gorge themselves. I don't like them because they chase the birds; We will have to ask professionals to deal with those intruders.

Ah, j'oubliais de vous dire que nous avons deux gros rats qui viennent manger la nourriture pour oiseaux que nous mettons dans le jardin...J'ai mis du poison sous les planches là où Kai Phong ne peut pas l'atteindre... mais jusqu'à présent ça ne sert à rien... Ils sont très malins les rats.... Quand j'ai mis les graines accrochées aux branches d'un arbre, ils ont tout simplement grimpé au tronc pour se régaler... Il va falloir demander à des professionnels de s'occuper de ces intrus...
