ISRAEL MARCH 2018

We stayed on Kibbutz Nachshon with Jane (Mark's sister) or rather next to Jane, as her neighbour Amalia and her husband have built a small house for their adult children to stay when they visit during the week-ends. Amalia and her husband kindly let us sleep there. Jane and Amalia get along so well that they decided to share their gardens which are magnificent as Amalia is a keen gardener.

                            

Nous restâmes au Kibbutz Nachshon avec Jane (la sœur de Mark) ou plus exactement à côté de Jane, car sa voisine Amalia et son mari ont fait construire une petite maison pour leurs enfants adultes lorsqu'ils viennent passer un week-end au Kibbutz. Donc Amalia et son mari nous ont gentiment prêté leur maison pour dormir. Jane et Amalia s'entendent si bien qu'elles font jardins communs et leurs deux jardins sont magnifiques car Amalia est un jardinier de talent.

On Tuesday 13 March, we went to Jerusalem to visit (for the first time) the Scherter Institute and its Rabbinical Seminary (Masorti-Conservative). We were hosted and guided by my hero : Rabbi David Golinkin (a great rabbi famous for his numerous Responsae to contemporary ethical and halahic problems about procreation, clonage, unigender weddings agunot problem etc...) I translated some of his responsae in French for the French Masorti website when I lived in Paris.

Nous ofrimes au Rabbin Golinkin une Haggadah Australienne, et chance; lui qui a tant de livres, n'en possédait pas encore

We gave Rabbi Golinkin an Australian Haggadah and luckily even if he has thousands of books, he did not have one so far!

    

Mardi 13 Mars, nous allâmes à Jerusalem visiter (pour la première fois) le Sherter Institute  et son séminaire rabbinique (Masorti-Conservative). Nous étions reçus et guidés par mon héros le Rabbin David Golinkin (un grand posnik célèbre pour ses nombreuses Responsae sur les problèmes éthiques et halahiques contemporains de procréation, clonage, mariages unisexe, problème des agunot etc...) Je traduisis plusieurs de ses responsae lorsque je vivais encore à Paris, pour le site web Masorti Français.

Cette femme rabbin prénommée Mmi est la sœur d'un cousin de Mark et Jane.

This woman rabbi given name is Mimi and she is the sister of one of Mark and Jane's cousin

Then we went to the old city and to he Wall.

Puis nous allâmes dans la vieille ville et au Mur.

 

 

 

We walked in Measheharim the very religious district,  which I had never done before... always went through it by car.

 

Nous nous promenâmes à Mehasheharim, quartier très religieux, chose que je n'avais jamais faite auparavent l'ayant toujours traversé en voiture.

BACK AFTER 3 WEEKS AWAY / DE RETOUR APRES 3 SEMAINES AU LOIN

Mark and I left Melbourne on Friday 2 March, and flew to Singapore where we stayed for 2 short days before flying to Paris. In Singapore we could not see Richard, who used to work with Mark in Hong-Kong, as he was sick and hospitalized in Myanmar... but we met Jonathan, another friend from Hong-Kong who now lives in Singapore with his wife Lin. Unfortunately, Lin was in Vietnam for her work. I was really sorry to miss her as she is so charming and so bright. They are expecting their first baby and seem to have settled down in Singapore as they have bought a house there.

Mark et moi avons quitté Melbourne le Vendredi 2 Mars, et nous sommes envolés pour Singapour où nous sommes restés 2 petits jours avant de partir pour Paris. A Singapour, nous ne pûmes voir Richard, un ancien collègue de Mark à Hong-Kong, avec qui nous devions diner, car il était hospitalisé à Myanmar... mais nous déjeunâmes avec Jonathan, un autre mi de Hong-Kong qui vit maintenant à Singapour avec sa femme Lin. Malheureusement Lin était au Viet Nm pour son travail et je regrettai vivement de rater l'occasion de la revoir car elle est tout aussi charmante qu'intelligente. Ils attendent leur premier bébé et semblent bien installés à Singapour où ils ont acheté une maison.

We stayed at the Tanglin Club, a magnificent colonial club.
Nous restâmes au Tanglin Club, un superbe club colonial.

We spent many hours walking in a dream all over Singapore Botanical Garden, which is one of the international treasuries chosen by Unesco. One of my favorite gardens!

Nous avons bien sûr passé de nombreuses heures de rêve à déambuler dans le jardin botanique de Singapour, classé au patrimoine international par l'Unesco. Un de mes jardins préférés!

 

 On Sunday 4 March in the evening, we were supposed to take a  plane for Paris, but our Air France flight had been cancelled so we managed to find a plane for New Delhi, had 4 hours there in transit, and flew from Delhi to Paris... Mark had a very important board meeting by Skype the next day and needed to be in Paris for it.
Le Dimanche 4 Mars, en fin d'après-midi, nous étions sensés nous envoler pour Paris, mais notre vol Air France avait été annulé, donc nous réussîmes à trouver un vol pour New Delhi, fîmes escale 4 heures là-bas en transit, puis nous envolâmes enfin pour Paris.... Mark avait une réunion très importante, un conseil d'administration  par Skype le lendemain aussi voulait-il absolument être à Paris le lendemain pour ça.

In Paris we briefly saw Laurent and spent plenty of time with Chun Wing.

A Paris, nous vîmes longuement Chun Wing et brièvement Laurent.

Chun Wing and I tried some of my old hats and one cap was perfect for him, I hope he'll be brave enough to wear it because it really suits him!

Chun Wing et moi essayâmes quelques uns de mes vieux chapeaux et une casquette lui allait vraiment bien et je la lui donnai, j'espère qu'il osera la porter car elle lui sied  à merveille!

  

Chun Wing gave us 2 tickets for a ballet at Opera Bastille, where we saw on of M. Millepieds's choreography and Le Boléro de Béjart. Chun Wing was not dancing however, he attended the performance, a few rows behind us. He keeps his promise to give us tickets, he is a man of his words! Thank you Chun Wing, we really appreciate that! I hope next time we will see you on stage!

Chun Wing nous donna 2 billets pour un ballet à l'Opéra Bastille, où nous vîmes une chorégraphie de Mr Millepieds et le Boléro de Béjart. Chun Wing ne dansait pas mais il assista à la représentation quelques rangs derrière nous. Il tient parole, il nous donne des billets quand nous sommes de passage! Merci Chun Wing, nous sommes très reconnaissants! J'espère que la prochaine fois on te verra sur scène.

In Paris I saw a few close friends and had a great time with them. On Sunday 11 March, Robin and Mish came from London, to spend the day with us in Paris. We were sooo happy to see them after many months. We went to Musée Jacquemart-André to see an exhibition about Mary Cassatt the famous American woman Impressionist.

 

A Paris, je vis quelques amis proches et profitai avec délectation de ces rares rencontres. Dimanche 11 Mars, Robin et Mish vinrent nous voir de Londres, et passèrent la journée avec nous à Paris. Nous allâmes au Musée Jacquemart-André voir une eposition sur Mary Cassatt la célèbre femme peintre Impressionniste Américaine.

Monday 12 March arrived and it was already time for us to fly to Israel.

Lundi 12 Mars arriva très vite, et nous nous envolâmes our Israël.
